How to Save Money at Partners Animal Hospital South Loop

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was a foster fail with a 10 year old geriatric cat that needed everything done for a baseline. He’s terrified of vets and this is a fear free practice where they catered to him on the floor! There was Feliway sprayed, a diffuser going, a soft blanket on the floor, and toys! They try to make it as pleasurable as possible. I was impressed. Shout out to Dr Keene and Jocelyn who really went the extra mile in providing caring service. We discovered my kitty has a sensitive tummy and prescription food was set up and later I got appropriate treats approved. He’s thriving and has gained weight. I’ll return annually to keep him on track. Our initial visit was December 2024. I called a few months later because I was concerned with a behavioral change and got a wonderful vet tech who took time to put me at ease on the phone. Great customer service. A convenient location and a Fear-Free environment. Super impressed with this place.

My 10-year-old dog, Jack, and I have been clients of this practice for a little over a year, and I’ve wanted to share our gratitude for some time now. Every visit reminds me why we chose Partners—and why we stay. From the moment we walk through the door, the authentic kindness of the entire team is unmistakable. The front reception staff, nurses, and veterinarians consistently create an atmosphere of warmth, calm, and genuine care. Their professionalism never feels clinical or detached; instead, it’s grounded in compassion and sincerity, which is incredibly reassuring as a pet parent. The surroundings themselves are inviting—clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed to help both pets and humans feel at ease. On one visit, Jack needed X-rays, and I was truly impressed by the clarity and quality of the imaging. They were the most precise X-rays I’ve ever seen for any pet I’ve had, which speaks volumes about the caliber of their equipment and their commitment to providing excellent care. I also want to give a special shout-out to Marlicia, one of the nurses, who has been a wonderful ambassador for the practice. Her kindness, patience, and gentle way of interacting with my four-legged kid made a world of difference. Knowing Jack is in such caring hands brings enormous peace of mind. If you are looking for a veterinary practice that will treat your pet with the same love, respect, and tenderness you would want for your own fur baby, look no further than Partners Animal Hospital South Loop. They have my full trust—and Jack’s wagging tail as proof.

We had a wonderful experience with this clinic while going through our kitten’s health certificate process. The process itself was stressful and involved multiple follow-ups and document changes, but the entire team was patient, professional, and incredibly kind throughout. We especially want to thank the front desk staff, Justin, Salina (hope I spelled this correctly!), and Paige, for being consistently responsive and transparent. Paige helped us clearly understand the full process and costs from the very beginning, and Justin and Salina were instrumental in helping us with status updates and necessary changes to ensure everything went smoothly. We’re also very grateful to Dr. Sharpe for the thorough examination and for taking the time to share helpful travel advice for Lucky, which gave us a lot of reassurance. Overall, this clinic is responsible, friendly, and truly supportive. We felt well taken care of every step of the way and are very thankful for the care they provided to both us and our kitten. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed the care and attention the staff and doctors gave my dogs during their annual check up. I felt Iike I also was provided all the information needed, including pricing costs, upfront so I could make informed decisions with the vet about my pets’ care and scheduling. Their prices aren’t cheap but that’s been my experience with all vets in the downtown Chicago area. Appreciate this team and the work they do!
