How to Save Money at BLVD Vet Logan Square

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely fantastic experience here with my cat. The entire staff including the front staff, techs, and vet were all so patient and caring with us. I never felt rushed while I was here, and I absolutely appreciate their transparency with the costs associated for everything. At the end they even gave us a bag with complimentary treats for my cat!

This place is A+ for my very nervous little man @senormansion. Also if your vet team recommends gabapentin or trazodone- definitely use it!!! Gabapentin has made a world of difference in his comfort level at the vet, and now he also just goes home and relaxes the rest of day after his visit (vs previous vets where he would hide/act suspicious for 24 hours after a vaccine).

I took my senior cat, Hazel, her for her first trip to the vet in a while. Dr. Kate and the vet tech (I forgot her name- I'm sorry!) helped put both of us at ease. Hazel was comfortable for all of her tests and I got her results quickly. It's given me peace of mind to know how she is doing health wise and to have a plan to address any potential concerns. Hopefully my senior lady is with me for a while, and as long as we are in the area I plan to take her back to Boulevard. Thank you all!

This is our first puppy and personally my first time coordinating a vet visit overall as an adult which was anxiety inducing. The process with Blvd Vet was incredibly smooth to schedule our visit, and beyond that, the technicians even helped answer a few questions before we even became an official patient putting my mind at ease! The office itself it fantastic and everyone that worked there was incredibly kind and patient with us. The Vet was super informative and lovely and we are so glad to have this facility nearby and plan to take our pup here from now on!

Had multiple really bad experiences here. Our first visit we found out upon arrival that for some reason they canceled our appointment that we had on the books for weeks. We ended up having to wait an hour to see a vet and it made us late for a family event in Wisconsin. The vet repeatedly made us feel really bad for having a dog with separation anxiety. They would take our pup into the back for any shots and naturally he would freak out being away from us. We asked multiple times if they could administer any shots in the room with us and we were told no that it was not what they did. For things like blood work we did give our dog a small dose of trazodone just to mellow him out, but then they started to recommend it for any vet visit where he was getting a shot. We recently switched vets and I can not tell you how much better of an experience we are having. Our new vet listened to us no problem and administered shots with us in the room and our dog hardly flinched. They were shocked we were even worried. I would not recommend BLVD to anyone they do not listen to you and will not tailor their approach. The only thing it was good for was convenience since it was at the end of our block.
