How to Save Money at Affordable Veterinary Care & Spay Neuter Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't tell you how relieved I was to be referred to these folks. See I left my hometown and am moving. So, with traveling thur the area I asked my really dear friend if she could recommend a vet she has used. Sarah recommended these folks. They are so welcoming right when you walk in the door. Then they had no problem giving my two babies ( 3 yr old Chihuahua mixes) their rabies shots. Plus I asked them about clipping their nails and that was taken care of too. I had no appointment but just walked in about one hour before closing. The gals were fabulous an so kind an loving to my babies I was very happy with their actions and professionalism shown. I would totally recommend them to anyone. I treat my two furbabies with a lotta love an positivity so how they are treated is of utmost concern to me as a dog owner. I wish them continued success in this stressful world.

This is a wonderful clinic. Dr. Tammy literally saved my cats life on two separate occasions. HIGHLY recommend this group! Update: This is a highly compassionate group of people when my cat was in its end-of-life days. They responded with kindness & professionalism when my cat passed.

Worst vet clinic (if you could even call them that) I've ever been to. I own an 80lb lab masttif who barked once or twice and growled once because that's how she communicates. She is the sweetest dog and has not once bit, lunged, or shown any signs of aggression to any living thing, including children. She has been to multiple vet clinics because of some allergy issues and has done incredible. When we first entered the exam room, we had 2 nurses and 1 doctor as well as our dog, my partner, and myself. Without asking any background information or trying to get my dog comfortable, they tried to go straight to the exam. (Which was to look at her ear). All 3 of them, the nurses and the doctor were acting frantic, kept assuming that she was aggressive and was going to bite the doctor because she was hiding and shaking underneath my partners chair scared to death and growled one time. They proceeded to say they needed to use a choke lead and a muzzle. We told them that both of those things were unnecessary and would only make her more afraid and uncomfortable. One of the nurses piped up and said that she had been bit in the face before and that that the doctor wanted a muzzle no matter what. Our opinions were a choke lead and a muzzle or to go somewhere else. After experiencing all that happened we decided to protect our dog from these un-caring "professionals" and left the building. Any veterinarian that I have ever been to knows to make a dog feel welcome and comfortable before even thinking about starting an examination. We will never be going back. Always think twice before taking your dog or pet to this "clinic". It is 20 to 25 more dollars to take your vet to a clinic that cares about how the dog feels. It's right down the road.

Dr. F was Soo helpful when our kitty was sick and super inexpensive! She tells you how it is and doesn't sugar coat it, but she wants to know your endgame so she can help figure the best plan of treatment for me and my animals! And the new Vet beyond the border is very friendly too, I hope to see them again under happier circumstances!
