How to Save on Veterinary Costs at River City Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

I have a puppy nearly 6 months now. I started off with River City Veterinary when I got my dog at 10 weeks. I also purchased the puppy wellness plan for around $78 a month that covers everything the first year and saves you roughly $900 when you price out each thing the wellness plan gives you separately (call or look on website - River City for details). So far I have been there three times for ongoing wellness visits for puppy and soon neuter/microchip which is part of wellness plan. Team here is nice and friendly. I highly recommend

Wrigley loves going to River City Pet Resort, and we love knowing that she is well cared for and not sitting in a kennel the entire time we’re gone. Every time we drop her off, the staff is excited to see her and we always get a sweet text with a picture of how much fun she’s having. We also enjoy searching for her on the webcams to see what she’s up to throughout her visit and we’ve never seen anything other than the dogs having a great time and the staff being loving and attentive. Will highly recommend RCPR to all of our friends.

I have had some bad experiences at veterinarian places lately and it was so refreshing to find River City. The tech was so nice and attentive. The vet took time to talk with me and go over options. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be working there. I definitely recommend!
