How to Save Money at WestVet Idaho Falls

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have to say how truely grateful and appreciative i am of west vet and their staff. On the hardest night of my life they were so kind and compassionate. I was a mess, of course having to put down my best friend of ten years is never an easy thing. But the staff was so compassionate and supportive and they made my luna feel at home and comfortable and loved even when it was time to say goodbye. Ive never cried so hard and felt such loss as i did that night. West vet staff took care of my luna and arranged for her cremation, paw and nose prints. They called about a week later and said i could pick her up, and i was blown away at how much care they took when i saw the beautiful box they supplied for her. I broke down and cried some more, and i know i will cry alot more in the future. However i am truely greatful for these amazing people. And then today i got an even bigger suprise when i recieved two beautiful sympathy cards from everyone there. Thank you to everyone of you amazing souls, and thank you for all you do. Im sure no one says this enough but me and my family APPRECIATE everything you do! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, our family is truely grateful.....

I was really nervous going in because you hear so many horror stories about emergency vet experiences. However, I cannot overemphasize how amazing their care was and I have no suggestions for improvement. I came in the middle of the night for foreign objects in my puppy's stomach and intestines. From the first phone call to when we left, they were professional, compassionate, supportive, and I felt heard and understood by all their staff. Before they would do any care they would give a quote first to make sure I was okay with the prices. They were always very upfront about the prices and understanding of any budget constraints I might have. They explained my options very well, and answered all the questions I had. They really made sure I understood why they made those recommendations, and the risks involved. They listened to me talk out my options at length and weigh the pros and cons because that's how I best think things out. They recommended another veterinary clinic that would be open in the morning and would be able to do the surgery for a cheaper price, which they could easily not of done for an owner who was scared, desperate, and not thinking about shopping around for prices on the weekend during an emergency situation. They were loving and caring with my humongous puppy, who was not always cooperative with the x-rays and treatment he needed. They refunded the money they didn't use from my deposit, and especially for an emergency vet clinic in the night hours I thought their pricing was more than fair. They saved my puppy, and made one of the worst nights of our lives as comfortable as possible for both me and my pet.

Tonight we had a small but serious issue suddenly arise with our Corgi’s eyes and vision and were scrambling to find anywhere we could take her to be seen ASAP. WestVet was immediate in their reactions and had phenomenal customer service throughout the process. The staff were gentle and beyond helpful. I would 100% recommend WestVet to anyone with any sort of pet emergency, small or large!

Truly amazing pet care. We woke up and our baby kitten was stuck in a mouse trap, unresponsive. We rushed him here from Tetonia, and they took him from critical condition to full-of-life in less than 24 hours. The expertise, communication, and all around care for our little guy was nothing short of excellent. They kept us in the loop every step of the way and were always happy to update us when we called. We owe our little Picasso’s life to this place, and we’re so grateful that this level of pet care exists.

I was told I needed $400 in X-rays. They couldn’t7 read the X-rays and told5 me someone would call first thing in the morning. I was driving to another state the next day and told them I needed the information early so if I needed to call another vet where I was going, I needed to know early. I called three times and didn’t get a call back for a week. What a waste of $700. I should have received a refund. You don’t wait a week if you really care about pets. This place is a disgrace. Every time I called everyone e is busy we will call you back. Then a week later is your dog ok. REALLY a week later.
