How to Save Money at WestVet Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This year was the first time we’ve ever used West Vet urgent care. Our first encounter was in February. One of our senior dogs passed away. And knowing that our normal hours for our vet was closed. We were not able to go through them. I came across West Vet, and they took incredibly good care, and sensitive to our needs. Then, in October and November. Sadly, we had to reach out to them again. They were caring sensitive, and the prices are not overly priced from what I’ve seen. I recommend them as they were genuinely caring. Thank you to the team. That assisted us and our time of need

I am so grateful for these kind people for being just that, kind & caring as well as open on Sundays (I know, "urgent" care) BUT still. I brought my under 2yr old dog in on Memorial Day weekend - which I was sure going to be busy after calling around other Vet Urgent Cares that had 3+ hr waiting times (which required physically being there for that time). I stopped in on my way to another location actually, thinking "why not", and they actually scheduled an appointment where I was able to leave and come back (No spending all day in the waiting room!). When I came back and they moved us into our exam room, I really appreciated that they didn't shut the door behind us while waiting for the nurse or doc, they left it open. This was nice for my dog to peep her head out and watch people come and go, and not feel isolated. The issue with my dog ended up being super common and after all of 3 minutes with her they decided it wasn't even worth charging me for the visit - that also just showed me the goodness of their hearts here. Not trying to nickle and dime customers on a holiday weekend. Whether i was charged or not, it was worth the peace of mind knowing it's not what I thought it was. Long story short: these people are kind, truthful, good hearted and boy do I appreciate them being open to take care of our fur babies in times of urgency when they could very well instead spend it with their family. Thank you!

I am very disappointed. I was about 30 mins late. I understand I was in the wrong, I had went to the wrong location. I explained myself and apologized. There were no other customers there- it was dead silent, no music. I can hear the vet techs talking bad about me while I’m out in the waiting room while they work on my dog. So unprofessional and inconsiderate. I understand being irritated about me being late, but there’s absolutely no reason to talk trash loudly where the customer can hear (or at all). Then of course act super nice to me afterwards. They also claimed to clean my dog’s ears, but I just looked and they are still covered in wax.

The staff were extremely knowledgeable, kind, and friendly. The veterinarian took time to explain options and answer questions in a clear way. They handled a distressing situation with professionalism and expertise. Plus, the facility is incredibly clean and new, and has amenities to ease the long wait times found at any veterinary ER.

My cat was seen a week ago and wasn’t improving. I called and spoke to the vet and she said I should bring him in for reevaluation and a bladder ultrasound. When I arrived there were a couple of people ahead of me so I was briefly asked about what was going on by the vet tech and told it would a little bit of a wait, totally fine. About 45 min later I asked the same tech about how much longer it would be (mind you one patient had discharged so she was helping with 1 patient and another tech was helping with a 2nd that came after me). The tech immediately got defensive, her tone changed and she went into how busy the day was and they hadn’t even had lunch and that I could bring my cat in tomorrow if I wanted. Um no ma’am, the vet told me he needed to seen so we aren’t leaving (not to mention a blocked bladder that is a medical emergency). Totally unprofessional. The vet actually came out about 15 min later and took him back to be evaluated. I understand being short staffed and busy, I’m a nurse, I get busy days and no lunch but that isn’t an excuse to be short and rude to a customer. It’s unfortunate because when I was here last week I had a totally different experience. The tech was great, he was immediately brought back to make sure his bladder wasn’t blocked, he was treated quickly and we were on our way. It was a wonderful experience. Now the Vet (same ones both days) was awesome and kind. I did let her know of our interaction and she apologized for it which was nice but hopefully someone can do some coaching with the tech on maintaining professionalism even when your tired, hungry and stressed.
