How to Save Money at Perry Creek Animal Hospital: Kranz Shelly DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Pam is in the house! She is a newer addition to the staff. Her gift is with cats. She worked with Miss Millie and was able to diagnose and treat her is short order. Miss Millie was able to snag some free healing rubs and TLC from Jeff the veterinary technician extrodanore. I am so glad that Miss Millie is recieving loving and quality care with Dr. Pam.

Gave them highest rating last time. So I called to make appointment for my kitten to get his last vaccination , and told receptionist that the Doctor told me on my last visit that if I set next appointment for kitty's last shot to tell receptionist that was all I needed and there would be no 65 dollar exam fee. So when I called, the receptionist (Carrie) told me she didn't think the Doctor said that! In other words she was saying I was lying!!! Very unprofessional of her to assume that. I've spent a lot of money for both my cats at this vet!! So maybe it's time for a change of vets !! Thank you Carrie for your rude behaviour and letting me know that your clinic really puts on a false front of caring about the animals when , of course it's all about the money! Sad!!!!!!-

I brought our baby bearded dragon here because they claimed to have a reptile vet and we knew there was clearly something not right with him. My first impressions here were good, staff at the front desk were friendly ect. Once I got into the back the vet tech was clueless on reptiles which wasn't the issue until the vet that actually "specializes" in reptiles came in and was just as clueless. I stressed over and over again that something was not right with him. Both my wife and I have enough experience with reptiles and we both knew something was wrong. They were more focused on taking a picture of him and how cute he was vs dealing with the issue. I was told the reason he was acting the way he was acting was due to shedding. I should have gone with my gut and knew that wasn't the issue but I trusted the vet. She offered x-rays which would have shown if he had a fracture which I knew he did not so I declined those. I asked if it could be parasites and she told me no and didn't offer to do any farther testing from there. Told me to just give him a bath to get the rest of his shed off which was clearly flaking off because it was falling off as he was being handled. The bill was $35. I forgot my wallet because I rushed him there asap. They said no problem just call and pay it which I had all intentions on doing. By the end of the week doing exactly what I was told to do his heath dwindled down and we took him to a different vet in town. They were able to figure out the problem right away and got him on medication but he was to far gone at that point, we couldnt get the meds in him, he stopped eating, and he was too small for injections... He ended up having to be euthanized. Had I been taken more serious and he was looked at closer and given the medication when I went to this vet he would still be here. If this vet didn't know what was wrong I should have been told that and I would have taken him elsewhere instead of being given a false "diagnosis". I spaced off calling to pay the bill because of everything that was going on and they mailed me a bill for there "service" and I called to explain the situation and my point on this and was transferred, and then never received a phone call back so I just left it at that. Still to this day receiving bills from them. Called them again and was told nothing they can do about it at this point and that they still want their $35. No sympathy for the loss of our pet due to their negligence, just all about the money. Some people look at reptiles as disposable animals and just money, but we lost a pet. The money isn't the issue, it's the principal. I dont know how they are with dogs or cats but I dont care to find out. I will never walk through their doors again and wouldny reccomend this place to anyone for anything. Definitely DO NOT take your reptiles here.
