How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Family Veterinary Practice

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! This vet treated my 1200$ Bengal. He amputated her tail told me everything was fine and he gave her some pain medication. Well next day comes and shes dead! He forgot to give her a stool softener so she couldn't go poop and died from blood toxicity. The VERY next day I get his bill in the mail!! No apology or anything just a bill!! This guy is worthless! And cares nothing about smaller animals. Dont waste your time or money.

This was a great find! I looked all over to find a vet to spay my wife's cat. You'd be shocked at some of the prices! Not only were they able to get Midnight taken care of in a reasonable time frame, but cost over 100$ cheaper than most of the other vets. They treated Midnight with love, care and compassion. I'd recommend taking all your pets to them. Located on Belmond, Iowa this place is worth the drive.

Was told by them about our cat Peanut, was told to feed the little kitten wet cat food, was also told she was old enough for it. WAS NOT TRUE She ended up passing away most likely due to hunger and lack of any proper nutrition for a cat so young. this kitten was so small and needed MILK, even worse was when a few YEARS later when my father went in with our mini doxie. LITERAL FLEAS JUMPING OFF HER, was told she didn't have any, Can't trust these people for anything. R.I.P Peanut the poor kitten :(
