How to Save Money at All Creatures Great & Small

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Basko is a genuinely compassionate Vet. He provides simple, natural solutions over any expensive treatment. We started going to him when my pup seemed to have food allergies. Dr. B helped us find a good diet for our pup with healthy, home-cooked food. He is incredibly knowledgeable and generous — he picked herbs for my pup right out of his own garden. We enjoy listening to Dr. B's KKCR radio show on Saturday mornings. He provides a lot of valuable info and resources. We are deeply grateful to him for his amazing care.

Best Vet on Kauai, and maybe even the world. After hearing his knowledgeable advice about dog health talking on the radio, we knew he would be a great vet. We have seen him for a dog that had blood in the stool, another time for a locked up neck/spinal problem, routine checks, heart-worm checks etc. and he have also solved what other vets on the island couldn't succeed treating, when one of our dogs with blood in stol, the other vet we saw just made it temporarily better with harsh unnecessary medicin that made the condition worse in the long run. Dr. Ihor Basko saved our dogs life! We also liked that he uses holistic/integral options when suitable, and the dogs love him and his staff, and we have dogs that would def not love some other vets, and it feels so good to have a vet that you feel actually likes animals, cause they can feel that and it will make them more comfortable. Thanks to the team at the clinic. Erika & Clayton

It was awesome! My dog felt comfortable and safe there, and they gave us a sheet of recipes and places that can help. They grow a bunch of plants around their property that help and gave us q bunch of it to take home. It felt like we were just talking to friends. They gave a thorough inspection and didn't charge any upfront fees. Instead some cold metal table they have a warm table with a cushion on it. Overall I trust them more than any other vet anywhere. The total price for everything, including medicine, shots, inspection, etc., was $137.49

So we think our dog had a seizure yesterday. His head was stuck to one side and he was unable to walk all last night. My wife looked up veterinary services and one guy said it would be $500 just to look at our dog. She then came across "all creatures great and small" and called right when opened at 9am. They were able to get us in at noon. Dr. B was great. He was able to diagnose our dog as having a neck strain along with arthritis in his back. He used acupuncture, oils, and massaged him back to health. I'm not joking he is back to normal. I would have never believed it if I didn't see it for myself. This place is amazing. The best part is for everything it was way less than money than we thought! Prices were great. With the awesome people here you no longer have to make the difficult choice because of money with your pets health! 100% satisfied with this place and will definitely be back if we need vet services in the future!
