How to Save Money at East Cherokee Veterinary Clinic | Dr. Robert S. Sobolewski, DVM, MS

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had the worst experience putting or dog down after giving them thousands of dollars in a years time since our dog had cancer. Never even met Dr. Rob and have only talked to him. Awful bedside manner. A vet tech made the mistake of not getting us what we asked for and paid for putting our dog down and it was too late, she was already cremated. I completely understand mistakes like that happen and I felt more sorry for the vet tech who had to make that call to me. I’m more upset with the way he handled it. He just said “sorry, our vet tech is really upset.” I have been so nice and patient but nothing has been done to make it right. I was told he would call me back and he never did after finally saying he would pay me back after a month of back and forth. It was obvious he was tired of hearing from me. I was nice throughout the whole process and understand but I knew I should’ve listened to a previous employer when they said Dr. Rob treats employees awful but never did. I would hate for anyone to have to experience what we did putting our dog down. There is a small seat that barely fits two people, no special room, noisy and very transactional. It was awful. Again, I hate it had to go this far.

Dr. Rob and his crew are the best. Every time I go in there I know they try to give me options that allow me to be able to afford the best care for my girls. I originally went to East Cherokee Vet because they were much more affordable than my old vet for the exact same things. And I mean less than half on most things, even routine visits. If for no other reason it's definitely worth giving them a shot! 😎👍

Well I have been using this clinic since he opened in 2017 and we had to put our lab down. We now have a lab we care for while my son is away at college and for some reason he HATES to have his nails clipped. He now has broken 2 off and had to have them surgically removed, he is very traumatized afterwards and becomes sick also even though we don't feed him as directed. Anyways we ended back up there today and he had to have one done again but with only light sedation and a pain shot, I could hear him screaming from the front office and he was again traumatized. I did and always do ask the cost before proceeding, I asked that I have my prescriptions written out and was charged $5, um okay. To my embarrassment they could not be filled at the local grocery store, so I called back up to have them filled, got there they were not and then ask to be credited the $5 towards getting them and was told NO we wrote out the prescriptions so we have to charge you? Wow, okay and this is not the first time I have had to ask them not to put certain medications on or from him and asked to be credited, first time no issues. But now over $5 dollars I can say we will be looking for another vet. I don't get the WARM/caring feeling anymore of the pet and me being put first. They haven't been rude or anything just not over good feeling anymore after being a customer for almost 6 years. $5 dollars???to loose a customer who had and was giving you great reviews out in public when hearing if someone needed a good vet.

East Cherokee Vet is the absolute best. I have two French Bulldogs and they are always coming down with some kind of bug so they visit the team at East Cherokee quite often. Every time, they are treated like family. Dr Rob and his staff care so much about their patients and always make my pups feel like a priority. I always know they are in good hands when they have to go in! 10/10 recommend!

We had never been to East Cherokee Vet until last week. My dog's condition worsened and I called multiple vets trying to get in. The team got me in for a drop off and confirmed our fears. They were unbelievable kind. We can't recommend them enough.
