How to Save Money at PURE Camden

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took our 3 week old kitten on Sunday. The baby was discovered in the middle of the parking lot and had a laceration on her leg. The ladies at PURE were so kind and compassionate! They took care of the baby and were very informative on next steps. The treatment felt more personal than at other emergency vets I’ve been to. Affordable as well.

Dr. Dutta and the team worked diligently to keep my 6 week old kitten with serious pneumonia and an insanely high fever alive, even though the outlook was extremely bleak. I was prepared for him to pass during the night after hearing that his fever spiked up to 108 again - but Dr. Dutta and the team at PURE Camden coached me how to make the little man comfortable while giving him the best chance to fight for his life and to break his fever. Because of them, he has pulled through beautifully and is doing so well! Dr. Dutta also took the time to personally reach out to my regular vet to explain all the measures that were taken to save his little life. That quick conversation and sharing of records made my visit to his regular vet on Monday morning so much easier! It was an amazing vet experience from the ER through weekend all the way to the vet Monday morning. This was such a heartbreaking and stressful situation and I can’t say enough how thankful I am that everyone was so kind, communicative and patient with me. I will sing PURE Camden’s praises to anyone who will listen!

I brought our dog in for signs of Bloat. As soon as we entered the building he let out an incredibly long belch and immediately seem to feel better (no more panting, gulping, drooling, or extended and tight stomach). The vet could have insisted that she perform an xray after she did an exam, but she actually said he seemed to be perfectly fine and gave us the option to xray as a precaution IF we wanted, but she didn't think it was needed. He was able to get rid of the air all on his own before it became an actual emergency, but because we had a shepherd pass away years ago for having trapped air that caused torsion, we opted to do the xray as a precaution and she was completely correct. My point is, this vet won't add extra procedures just to get more money out of you, she seems to be honest, knowledgeable, and truly caring of the animals she treats. I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of which vet at PURE that treated our boy, but I imagine that any vet there must be of the same caliber. Bonus, having an ER vet in Camden County! Thank you PURE!

I have never been here but I know someone who has and I can’t believe what she is going through because her dog is very sick and she doesn’t have $4000 to pay for a surgery. Her dog swallowed a sock a was offered to put the dog down instead of treating. She was given medicine to see if the dog would pass the sock but that wasn’t happening and was told the bowel was leaking into the stomach and yet not given antibiotics. I am not a doctor but I know what sepsis is and a leaking bowel is not good. I know vets like doctors have to earn a living but really?? Where is the compassion and empathy and most of all your love for animals which I am guessing why you chose to be a Veterinarian.

I couldn't say more great things about PURE Camden! I came in past 10 with an emergency, and they got us out extremely quickly. The staff was amazing (very patient and talked me through everything!), and the price is definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. I highly highly recommend!
