How to Save Money at Grayson Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The neighborhood cat that eats and sleeps at our house frequently developed a serious infection in neck and seemed to be near death. It was the Friday before Labor Day and I was afraid I could not find a vet to see her I was referred to Grayson Vet. I called and started telling the receptionist what was wrong. Instead of her making excuses about being too busy, she stopped me and went immediately to talk to the doctor. He was extremely busy but said for me to bring her and drop her off and he would see her inbetween appointments. Doctor Tolliver called and explained what needed to be done and cleaned the infection out and got her on strong antibiotics. He took the time to talk to me when I went and picked her up and explained everything. He saved her life. Everyone was SO nice. I'm so thankful I was sent there. Wish I had known about this place before.

I came to Grayson veterinary hospital because my regular vet was closed on saturdays. We moved to Loganville about a year and a half ago and our vet is located in Snellville, where we used to be. So it's a bit of a hike to get to our old vet and it is hard because they're not open on Saturday's. My dog woke up with what look to be either an abscess or a ruptured anal gland and pus was pouring out of it (sorry to be graffic). I called Grayson Animal Hospital and they were kind enough to fit my dog in. The vet that saw my dog was apparently only in once a month she was great with my dog. She express the anal glands and prescribed an antibiotic as well as a topical ointment for the ruptured anal gland wound. I asked for Heartgard because we were out of it and the vet tech also talk to me about NexGard for fleas and ticks and I decided to go ahead and go for it so my dog wouldn't bring fleas into the house and the cats. There was no pressure, it was just a good option for me. It was a great experience and I can't thank them enough for fitting my dog in. To top it off we didn't have to wait that long. I'm definitely going to consider this as an alternative now. They're only 11 minutes from my house. The receptionist was explaining that the doctor, twin daughters and another family member were all practicing together at the Vet Hospital, so it was a family affair. I'm very interested in exploring this Vet Clinic further. It was a great experience and their prices were very reasonable!

Great place to take your pets!! My dog had an ear infection (I suspected), and my last vet couldnt get her in until Monday. This was on Friday. I called any vet, as I felt it was turning into an emergency. Grayson was the only vet that told me to come on. I was a complete stranger to them, but they didn't care; they were concerned with my dog. I have been using them ever since. And yes, my dog had an ear infection..
