How to Save Money at Dogwood Veterinary Medical Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My sweet Lynda had an accident outside. The ER Vet in Chattanooga told me she needed surgery and quoted me up to $5000. Thank the Lord we found Dr. Bragg. He was able to help her at an affordable rate. She had to have her back leg amputated, but she’s recovering fast already! I like that after we dropped her off, he took the time to go over her X-ray and explain everything to us. My mom and I felt Lynda was in good hands. The office staff are the best, so kind, and answer all your questions! They even called the next day and asked how she was. They truly care and listen. Truly grateful! Lynda is doing so great already and getting around just fine. I will come here for any pet needs in the future, too.

My husband and I along with our 2 dogs moved to Dalton from out of state in March. In an emergency situation with our youngest, after calling multiple clinics, I stumbled upon Dogwood. From the moment I stepped into the clinic, greeted by the most beautiful heavenly mural, depicting Lord Jesus surrounded by animals, I felt such a peace and there was a reason other clinics couldn’t take us right away. Dr Bragg and his staff are truly exceptional. The level of kindness, compassion and care is unlike anything I’ve experienced in all my years as a pet parent and I knew we found our home base for pet care. Fortunately our youngest made a full recovery and is thriving but no sooner, our senior boy going on 16, his health was declining with an incurable neurological muscular apathy so all we could do was make him comfortable for whatever time we had left. Dr Bragg made himself available for consult when we knew our boy was telling us it was time. He and the staff made us feel so loved and cared for as we said goodbye. Our hearts are broken but we could not be more grateful for Dr Bragg and this staff during such a time. As we await our boys ashes, we received the most thoughtful sympathy card from the staff with a print of our boy’s paw. Thank you Dogwood for all you do and making it your mission to care for our pets as family.

I recently brought my senior dog, Asia (12 years old, Pitbull Mix), to Dogwood Veterinary Medical Center, and the experience was truly a blessing. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by warm and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Dr. Spencer Bragg, a Dalton native, was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and took time to not only care for Asia but to connect with me as well. What made the visit even more meaningful was the genuine kindness and uplifting spirit throughout the clinic. We even shared a little piece of Jesus in conversation—something I truly needed that day. It’s rare to find a vet clinic that takes care of both your pet and your soul. Dogwood Veterinary Medical Center is a gem here in Dalton, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for compassionate, expert care for their fur babies. Thank you all so much for taking such great care of Asia—and for making us feel truly seen and supported 🐾💜😊

Dr. Bragg and staff were very nice and professional. They took us in on a Saturday morning as our regular vet’s office was closed. We were seen immediately and our kitty’s cast was replaced asap. We feel our cat received excellent care and we will consider them for future care.

Dr.Bragg really listened to my concerns and took them seriously everyone in the office was so nice and friendly and I could tell they really care about your animals! Editing my review to add shortly after my first visit here my baby Priscilla had an accident while I was in the shower and the emergency vet was 0 help but Dr.Bragg came up with an awesome treatment plan and when we unfortunately had to amputate he did a beautiful job and Priscilla has healed wonderfully! I will recommend him and his team to everyone!
