How to Save Money at Veterinary Specialists of Greater Atlanta
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog, Rio, tore his cruciate ligaments in his left knee and due to the nature of his bone structure, he had to see a "Special" Specialist to undergo a CCWO procedure instead of the typical TPLO. Dr. Cross is that Special, Specialist in more ways than one. He is not only one of the best orthopedic veterinary specialists in the country, but his bedside manner is just as fantastic. My dog is not the best patient, he is terrified of being examined, which translates to fear aggression, but Dr. Cross and all of his staff were wonderful at working with him. He is 3 days post surgery and doing great! The facility is beautiful and every, single staff member we spoke to was friendly, energetic, and seemed to enjoy their job. Shout out to Jessica for remembering me and my previous dog, Bimini, from many years ago at another vet. It was a nice, happy surprise that she popped into our room to meet Rio and say hello! That is the kind of love and attention nervous pet parents need. I can't say enough good things about VSGA. I wish I could bring Rio here for his routine veterinary care! Edit: We took Rio for his 7 week check-up and X-Rays. All looked good! We are extremely happy with the results and absolutely love coming to see Dr. Cross (although, hopefully, we won't have a future need to see him!) Again, I wish we could do our routine vet care here. We would pay triple the cost just to receive the same attention and care we receive here!

Dr Stacy Andrew and team is amazing!!! I visited another specialist who was quick to recommend surgery…..expensive surgery. Dr Andrew held a treatment course instead and babies eyes have stayed consistent vs getting worse. They give options, are honest and incredibly trustworthy. I would take all my babies here and go with whatever course of treatment was recommended after my visit and interactions. Dr Andrew is the best!!

We were referred to VSGA for our Dachshund’s cataract surgery and had a wonderful experience. The facility is new, high-end, and exceptionally clean. Dr. Stacy Andrew and her staff were friendly, compassionate, and clearly dedicated to the well-being of their patients. We felt confident and well-informed throughout the process. Our pet had a successful cataract surgery, and we’re incredibly thankful to Dr. Stacy Andrew and her team. We highly recommend VSGA to anyone in need of specialized veterinary care.

After a potty walk before bedtime, my Great Pyrenees; Luna, came back inside rubbing her eyes with her paws- she was also squinting. The next day, she seemed to have trouble seeing objects, like bumping into things. We took her to Vet next day-Friday. Vet gave us eye drops thinking it may be an environmental allergen. After a week of drops, still no changes, Luna seemed to be blind! Vet referred us to their normal specialist; however, they could not see Luna for another month! Since this problem happened suddenly, we felt time was of the essence! I called my daughter, who works for a vet in the Atlanta area, and she referred me to VSGA. Kasey answered when I called and was professional and courteous ( unlike the other specialist I called). After hearing the pleas for help in my voice, Kasey went and explained the situation to team of Doctors. They agreed Luna needed to be seen asap. so...the following day, Luna was seen by Dr. Andrew. Becca, the vet tech was fabulous! Her kind professionalism already was calming me. After Dr. Andrews thorough examination, it was determined that Luna's corneas had detached and yes, she was totally blind- for now...WIth this outstanding team behind her, I feel confident that Luna's eyesight will return to her. I am forever grateful to the staff at VSGA! ( I'd like to add...the facility is top notch! They were able to conduct a complete blood work panel while there- something not many vets cannot do!) UPDATE: It has been a few weeks now, and I am very excited to announce that Lunas eyesight returned!! After about 5 days on meds, we noticed some positive changes in her behavior ( not running into things, less timid/afraid to walk) and after a full week, her sight had returned! I would like to correct my previous post- it was NOT her corneas that had detached-rather her RETINA. ( big difference). After her recheck at office, Dr confirmed Lunas retinas had reattached and all was well again. What a huge relief. We cannot thank this office and entire staff for their kind and skilled professionalism that helped our sweet girl- we are forever grateful!

Dr. Alan Cross at Veterinary Specialists of Greater Atlanta is amazing. He was so patient with me, took time to answer all my questions, and showed real care with my spicy, hissing cat. His background and experience are impressive (read his bio on their website), but what stood out most to me was his compassion. When you’re stressed and trying to find the right specialist for your pet, that combination of skill and kindness is everything. These folks are gonna put Blue Pearl out of business and I’m here for it!!!
