How to Save Money at VEG ER for Pets
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The most amazing pet hospital Ive been to. I will never go anywhere else! The staff is so kind and empathetic, and they are willing to do anything to make sure your baby is safe and healthy. I brought my Bruce Wayne in for his second urinary blockage in one month at only 1 years old, terrified about his outcome and my ability to give him what he needs. In less than an hour Dr. Whalen, nurse Caitlyn, and nurse Jordan completely turned my worries around and even had me laughing by the end of the night. I went from sad crying to happy crying thanks to them and their willingness to work with my limitations. I will never forget them for their kindness and generosity. I also love how they let you be close to your baby the entire time and engage with you as much as possible. I am also thankful for Dr. Sole who explained next steps during discharge and was very communicative, nurse Sarah for monitoring Bruce throughout his stay, and any other staff that may have taken care of him while I was not there. Also the front desk team is so warm and helpful. I apologize for any names I missed - the entire team is incredible. I cannot thank them enough for saving my Brucey. I feel completely confident in his care.

Absolutely every member of the team was exceptional — compassionate, attentive, and deeply committed to caring for both our pet and our family. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt supported by a staff that worked in perfect sync, keeping us informed and making sure we never felt alone in the process. I would especially like to recognize Dr. Erin Sole. In one of the scariest moments we’ve ever faced with our pet, she became our steady and reassuring presence. Dr. Sole communicated with honesty, clarity, and genuine empathy — making us feel like true partners in every decision rather than bystanders watching events unfold around us. She took the time to explain each step, answer every question, and ensure we fully understood what our pet needed and why. Her kindness and calm changed everything for us. Dr. Sole is the kind of doctor who can take an overwhelming emergency and turn it into an experience where you feel seen, supported, and genuinely cared for. We are deeply grateful for her and will never forget the comfort she brought to our family.

What a wonderful experience! It was our first time having to take our Great Dane in for an emergency visit ever. We couldn’t get in at our regular vet and we are so glad we went to VEG. From the initial triage call to every step of the way the team was amazing. Anya, Nicki and Dr Johnson were so informative and understanding. Goose got the best care and was prioritized appropriately as true emergencies were coming in. Thankfully he was examined and confirmed to be stable fast.

We are so grateful for the amazing care our dog Roxy received at VEG Pet Hospital. After she was bitten, their team acted quickly, with both professionalism and compassion. Everyone we encountered was so kind, calm, and incredibly thorough. They made a scary situation much less stressful for both Roxy and our family. You can truly tell they love what they do. Highly recommend to anyone needing emergency pet care—VEG is the best!

I cannot say how wonderful you guys are. This is to say thank you for your compassion and end of life assistance and care for our sweet tabby cat Louis. We only wish we had had more time with him. We received the most patient and understanding staff to help us deal with our situation. We had a completely unexpected and sudden diagnosis (stroke) with no warning, and we were treated with such concern and professionalism that I cannot thank you all enough for being so compassionate with me and my family. The speed and knowledge you all brought to him the second we arrived showed me how much you all care for the animals you service. Each person answered all our questions and respected our choices and decisions at our pace without any pressure, and I know everyone was doing everything they could to make him as calm as possible. I was constantly updated every few hours on his status and we never felt isolated from our cat. You cared for him and kept him as comfortable as possible while we waited for our daughter to fly in from NY the next morning so we could all say good bye as a family. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of our hearts. We are forever thankful for your help during our difficult time. I appreciate all you did to help us with the limited options we had. RIP sweet boy, we will see you on the other side.
