How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough about how great the staff at Vetco Titusville, Florida are. My cat had not been feeling well and booking an online appointment was easy. We arrived and the vet techs Katie and Gerry are fantastic at answering questions. We met our new forever Dr. McKinney. She did a total exam and we followed her recommendations for bloodwork etc. She informed us by texting that our little boy has diabetes. Gerry taught me how to give insulin shots and is such a nice person. Katie too! The best part of this whole experience is how readily available Dr. McKinney is to answering your text message questions. We were alarmed when our cat started throwing up again and had a high glucose reading. We texted her at 8:30 am and immediately she responded asking questions and letting my wife and I know that the transition period can be a struggle sometimes and not to worry. She lowered our stress level. To have a vet that you can text and get a quick response is priceless. We later did another glucose test and the numbers were great. We have two more cats and we know who their doctor will be should they need help. Vetco Titusville We thank you!! Gary and Nona

This is truly a great animal hospital. With only 1 Doctor and a small very experienced staff. They still always fit me in. They are open all day on Saturdays! They really take the time to listen and understand. They didn't make me feel rushed or like I was taking up time. My dog felt so comfortable and it was super clean and smelled nice. We also loved the grooming salon and pet store are in the same building. It's a one stop shop! This is our new permeant vet!! Thank you all so much!

Horrible experience. They took my dog in the back, claimed to give him a series of shots, oral meds and a full exam. He was back there for 5 minutes. My dog does not do well with oral meds, it would have taken him that long to administer them. I was concerned about a tooth in his mouth. The vet claimed there was nothing wrong. I took him home, looked myself with a flashlight light and the tooth is obviously broken. She never checked!!!!!! How can I be sure they did anything? I will have to take him to a real vet, for a real exam and real shots. Oh and all this cost 400 dollars. They coaxed me into signing for a 345 dollar package claiming a discount would be applied for the visit at the register, not to worry about the price. I told them we didn’t need all these shots but she claimed that was the only package available. We got to the register and there was no discount. We tried to argue but they talked in circles. We tried calling customer care but was looped back to this location. We went back 3 days later looking for answers but we were talked in circles AGAIN. We went for two shots, a fecal test and exam. How we ended up with all these charges, I still do not understand. Now I’m out the money I paid, plus will have to go somewhere else and do it again because I have zero confidence anything was done to my dog that day. It’s very sad that Petco allows this type of scam.

We had an amazing visit today with Dr. McKinney and Claudia. My cat was experiencing some sort of skin problems and this is our first visit there. They were friendly and welcoming and so patient and upfront about everything. They even gave me prices for everything before I chose treatment plans and were so easy to work with. We will definitely be back with all of our cats.
