How to Save Money at VEG ER for Pets

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

There are no words strong enough to thank Dr. Reber and her incredible team for what they did for us and our dog. We came in for emergency abdominal surgery, terrified and heartbroken, and they truly saved her life. Dr. Reber was not only a brilliant surgeon, but also one of the kindest, most compassionate people I’ve ever met. She kept us informed through every step, explained everything with patience and care, and treated our dog like her own. We were at the clinic all night, and they went above and beyond—they made us a bed to sleep on so we could stay close and comfort our dog. That level of compassion is rare and unforgettable. Nurse Angelica was phenomenal—gentle, attentive, and so clearly passionate about her work. She comforted both us and our pup, and kept everything calm and under control. And Haley at the front desk was a ray of sunshine in a very dark moment—warm, helpful, and on top of every detail. I will never forget what this team did for our family. If you’re looking for a veterinary clinic that treats you with genuine care, communicates clearly, and will fight for your pet like they’re their own—this is the place. Dr. Reber, Angelica, Haley—thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Absolutely amazing my sister came in with her cat we spent our whole time there with 3 different vets rotating in and out and every single one was amazing and they all took time to explain everything the whole step of the way they even delivered some bad news but in the most comforting way. The whole staff was friendly and comforting. They got us answers extremely fast.

I want to start by saying I hardly EVER write reviews, but i feel that i have to take the time for this one. The entire staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and quick to act when my dog Max was brought in for a STAT emergency. I’ve never been to an ER vet where you’re allowed to stay with your pet throughout the entire process—it made a world of difference during such a stressful time. Dr. Schwartz was outstanding—compassionate, clear, and thorough in explaining every step of Max’s care. I want to extend a special thank you to Jon, whose patience and dedication were unmatched. He stayed by Max’s side the entire time, treating him as if he were his own. As well as the nurse that was by his side. The whole team went above and beyond, helping us feel supported and reassured while Max was being treated for heat stroke. I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care we received.

I have had to go to VEG multiple times since I have a diabetic cat. Everyone treats my cat like he's their own. You can just tell how much the staff cares about each and every patient they treat. Also, I love that they offer "VEG Hotel" so I can stay with my cat in the hospital overnight. Buddy loves it there! 10/10 would recommend.

This was the best experience we have ever had when needing to take our fur baby to be seen in an emergency! We walked in and they immediately welcomed us with open arms, brought us straight to the back in the ER and allowed us to stay with our baby throughout the process. Everyone worked together very quickly as a team which we loved to see❤️! They were very thorough with us from beginning to end and in the process they comfort us with a beverage or coffee of choice if we would like. I love the fact that they offer a room for you to stay there with a bed if your fur baby has to stay overnight for observation so you don't have to feel you need to leave them behind. I highly recommend their service to anyone 10 out of 10!! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
