How to Save Money at Gulf Coast Veterinary Center - Gunn Hwy

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our doggy's lifetime vet retired, so they referred us to Gulf Coast. I was so happy they did. Tonight we had our initial meet and greet visit with Priscilla (tech) and Dr. White. Our doggy is a senior and both women put him immediately at ease. They were very thorough checking him out and asking questions regarding his health and history. You can immediately tell that they are both animal lovers just by the gentle touch they showed my furbaby. The clinic was very clean. I am so happy we were referred to this veterinarian and we already made an appointment to come back for his yearly shots. We look forward to a long relationship with Priscilla and Dr. White.

I took my oldest and youngest dog into the office today and was very happy with the service. Bre, Priscilla and Dr. Hamilton made the process dry easy and comforting for myself and my babies. This was it first office visit and it will not be the last. My original vet retired and Dr. Hamilton was highly recommended and I now know why I have even scheduled one of my other dog for his new client appointment and will be scheduling the other two shortly. Thank you for the professional service.

I'm giving them one star because although the staff are very nice they completely missed the mark and misdiagnosed my cat. I decided to take my newly adopted cat to them to try them out and after they physically examined the cat they said she just had a cough from allergies but she didn't have an upper respiratory infection. My cats symptoms continued to worsen after this visit. So I took her to the other vet I regularly used in the past and this vet said the cat was very sick. He took her temperature and showed me the thermometer which said her temperature is 104 degrees which is too high. Gulf Coast never took the cat's temperature when they examined her. Clearly the cat actually had a URI. The other vet I went to said you can tell if a cat has a fever by touching their ears. If they are too hot then they have a fever and her ears were very hot to the touch. Now my cat is being properly treated for a URI but Gulf Coast completely missed the boat here. Glad I trusted my gut and went back to my old vet for a second opinion on this one.

Everyone in the office is truly genuinely sweet but Amanda in my opinion stood out the most the way she handled my animal and the way she handled herself speaking to me and assuring me I can genuinely feel that she cared with tears in my eyes she made me laugh and smile and in moments like these are hard bringing your fur baby to a doctor for whatever reason is hard in itself and Amanda made a nerve wrecking experience into the complete opposite.. I walked out of there smiling truly blessed that there are people out there like her. Thank you Amanda and team you are all truly amazing. ******This was at the linebaugh location but I actually went here on accident, can’t wait til this location opens and I hope Amanda goes to this one lol thanks again!!
