How to Save Money at Cross Creek Animal Medical Centre

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Most dogs are scared or anxious at the vet but my dog loves visiting! Paula, Eniko and Dr Hodge are the best! Passionate about the animals they care for, always checking in even after just shots, compassionate, thorough, and happy to take any time you need answering questions or concerns. I will never take my Neva anywhere else!

I want to first mention that it has been years since my pet seen this vet. However, it is relevant that I leave a review because this vet was my first introduction to holistic veterinarian practices, and knowing what I now know, I can confidently say that they were anything but holistic with my kitties. My cat Panda was seen because he has many allergies. Their first line of defense was to get him onto a prescription veterinarian food, which I was told that he may, could, and probably would be on this for the rest of his life and that the food is perfectly fine for him to consume. Years later, my cat(s), as both of them were on the food in order not to have cross contamination in my house, suffered severe dental issues, with one of them requiring all of his teeth but four being removed (by another veterinarian). I have since done my own research, and have worked with a truly holistic alternative veterinarian who has educated me on the dark sides of prescription pet foods, and any kibble based dried food on the market. If you want to get to the root cause and have healthy animals, eliminate or reduce their allergies and other diseases, they must be on a species appropriate diet, which means a nutrient dense raw meat diet for your obligated carnivore kitties (dog following a similar route but tweaked appropriately). I am saddened that I am leaving this review years later, but it is appropriate because I thought I was doing the right thing by seeing a holistic vet, but this practice, at least what I experienced at the time, was far from it.

Great experience as a new patient. Our dog was welcomed and didn’t seem exhausted or stressed out like she has in the past post vet visits at other places. She was happy and cheerful when she was finished, and it was a quick experience which is always nice! The dr and staff were amazing. So blessed to have been referred to this clinic.

It's one thing to have your Veterinarian take their time with you and ensure your pet is getting the best care... Its a game changer when your Veterinarian treats you as family! Dr. Hodges does just that! Dr. H is thorough with his examinations and has diligent patience in explaining his observations to you and ensures that you fully understand the health issues of your pet, not to feel shamed or embarrassed but on the contrary, you feel encouraged, grateful and empowered. Dr. Hodges is very professional, but more importantly, he and his staff make you feel as family. His our Dr. Dolittle!!!! (really, I think he talks to them!)

We've been going to see Dr. Hodge for about 4 years now. We absolutely love bringing our French Bulldog in to see them. The staff is so nice and friendly and everyone takes more than enough time to explain everything that they're doing and why a treatment plan is recommended. Pricing is on par with everything else we've experienced, and they always give you a detailed price quote before performing anything. I can not speak more highly about Cross Creek Animal Medical Centre and Dr. Hodge!
