How to Save Money at Clark Road Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. SMITH is very knowledgeable and thorough. He is compassionate and patient. We didn't have an appointment, but they "snuck us in" with our 18-year-old old cat that we thought had reached her limit and perhaps had to be euthanized. Quite the contrary. Dr. Smith was complimentary. Our cat still had a good life ahead of her. We were thrilled. There's more to just treating animals; the owners have a bond with their fur babies, and consideration of this means a lot.

Over five years, I have only had amazing experiences with the staff, technicians, and doctors at this practice. They are all enormously talented and extremely passionate about animal well-being. My senior dog loves each visit and they've done a great job keeping him healthy and comfortable in his later years. All around wonderful people.

Words cannot express the most highest regard we have for Dr. Smith. First and foremost his sincere love of animals and the compassion he has toward his clients and their pets needs. Over the twenty years we have brought our 5 precious dogs to him he has always impressed us with all his knowledge and approach to treatments. Dr. Smith has provided our dogs with the best possible lives they could have. We feel blessed to have found such a devoted caring veterinarian that puts our pets health first. Thank you, Dr. Smith

I have been seeing Dr. Andre since my dog was a puppy almost 8 years ago. I cannot say enough good things both about her and the practice in general. They have worked with me tirelessly to do testing on one of my dogs who has PLN and they found the right dose of meds that have helped him greatly. They are always kind and patient and Dr. Andre always takes the time to make sure everything is taken care of. They have fantastic techs and I particularly love Gigi. Even though it’s a bit of a hike for me to get there at times, I don’t care because they are worth it!

Dr. Smith is an amazing human being . period. But.. we are no longer taking our pets there. The office grew and with it they lost the personal touch , the compassion and everything else that made it so great before. We sent tens of new patients there, we spent thousands of dollars there each year for all of our pets, we even kept going after we moved and it was less convenient. the changes started slowly two years ago, the staff started "pushing" unnecessary things to add to the bill, it continued when our Pug having a surgery an no one called to even check on him, and lastly , when we had an appointment for a new pet, and tried to call to tell them we are running 10 min behind (couldn't get the new cat from under the bed) no one answered the phone for over 20 minutes. when we arrived 10 min late, the receptionist said they can still take us , but it will be a non planned visit , so its more expansive. so with that , for extra 20$ (that to us wouldn't have changed much but the principal of it, you either have time or you dont, 20$ doesn't change that)they lost a family that spends a lot of money there and refers many many patients. When my husband asked the receptionist what her name is - she said" I dont know" 5 other people at the reception didn't feel the need to step in to make it right. it became just another VET clinic with a good Dr. thats it.
