How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been coming to this VETCO for about a year now and my experience is always positive. The team is amazing. They answer all of my questions and if they can’t, they always check back with the vet who can. My dog recently got spayed here and that experience went well. They broke down all of the fees and gave a proper estimate based on my needs and wants. I was given a number to reach them in case of anything and I did use it. I sent pictures and they called the next morning first thing. I was able to come in to be seen and I needed antibiotics for my dog because she got a slight infection from licking her wound. After that she healed and they were really happy to see her at her actual post op check up. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and an awesome vet, Dr Rodriguez. Highly recommend!!

Don’t bring your animal here for serious issues. Anything minor seems to be ok. I wasted $750 here for an x ray and fecal sample. Didn’t even mention bloodwork and her symptoms pointed to absolutely needing bloodwork. Doctor gave us a digestive probiotic and said call us back in 15 days! If she is still having diarrhea. A dog shouldn’t have diarrhea for more than a couple days, theres obviously something seriously wrong. Absolutely insane to tell someone that. Being that when she was brought in it was her 4th day with the symptoms. I will never be back, doctor was not urgent and seemed to have a lack of experience. We even paid extra to have the x rays expedited, called for 2-4 hours for results. My wife called back 5 hours later the tech answered the phone and said that we were wrong that her results were going to come back on Thursday (yes for the fecal test, but we paid $100 more to expedite the x ray results same day), the Doctor then got on the phone and said “oh yeah they are right here”. But did not call us when they came in. If I could give a negative rating I would. Very dissatisfied, sad that public animal care can be so poor.

Needed sileo for my dog, all other vets in the area charge around $80 for an exam just to prescribe it but was able to use the first exam free coupon that Vetco offers. They also have Sileo for $35 while other vets in the area charge twice that for the same amount of medication. All the employees were friendly, we got taken to the exam room fairly quickly upon arriving as well.

May 12th, 2025 visit: Awesome and exceptional customer service as usual, from everyone in the office except the Vet Lindsay Gallagher. Her unprofessionalism, rudeness, gross uninformed attitude, and obvious cluelessness to the situation was surreal. Her crude approach to implementing directions regarding the times (4x no answer, 2 vm)) the office was called to report Shaggy's response (vomiting and pain with limping for 48 hrs on the limb she gave the shots), demonstrated her lack of experience and outright ignorance. She also thought she had knowledge or a congenital GPS or ESP to guide her to the location Shaggy and I were, and the time and distance required to drive from that location to return to the office before the 5pm closing time. Her attitude, lack of compassion for my pet's health was noxious, and relief came when she decided to hang the phone up while I was still speaking to her. A clear display of disrespect and uncouthness. Lindsay Gallagher is never permitted to care for Shaggy in the future. Thanks to Yvette (the Manager) who was able to give obvious instructions, shows empathy and concerns, following up with Shaggy the next day, and ensuring he recovers from the after effect of poor care. Her expertise and professionalism profoundly illicit and renewed my confidence in Vetco, propelled continuation of care for Shaggy at Vetco, and reminded me of the long-term relationship fostered with Vetco prior to the repugnant, obnoxious encounter, unprofessionalism, and outright rudeness experienced with Gallagher.

We looove Dr Gallagher and Julissa. Our pups Mylo and Bentley actually enjoy going to the Vet’s (that’s rare). They’re incredibly friendly and treat our babies like their own. I’m so happy we found a place where the whole family feels comfortable. Thank you for treating our babies so well.
