How to Save Money at VEG ER for Pets

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the entire team at Veterinary Emergency Group for their extraordinary care and dedication. This past Friday night, they truly saved my dog Masha’s life. Just a few days earlier, Masha had undergone a spay surgery at another clinic where the incision was only closed with glue and no stitches. Being a very large and active dog, she suddenly tore the wound open, and tragically, her intestines began to protrude. It was a terrifying moment for us. Thanks to the quick action, professionalism, and compassion of the VEG team that night, Masha’s life was saved. Despite her challenging temperament, every staff member treated her with patience, kindness, and genuine care. They performed the emergency procedure with incredible skill, and today Masha is safely recovering at home. What impressed me even more is that VEG didn’t stop at the surgery. Every day since, they have followed up with messages, checking on her progress and even asking for photos to ensure she’s healing well. They provided us with clear instructions, a full care plan, and all the medications needed for her recovery. This level of attention and commitment goes far beyond what we ever expected—it is truly 5-star care. My family and I will be forever grateful to VEG for giving us more time with our beloved Masha. May God bless each and every one of you for the incredible work you do. With heartfelt thanks, Ariel & Liam Alvarez

I cannot say enough about the outstanding care at the Veterinary Emergency Group. Unfortunately, I’ve had to bring my pup here twice, but both times I left feeling so grateful that this place is near my home. We were seen by Dr. Georgett Servito and nurse Annette, and I truly cannot thank them enough. Their compassion, patience, and empathy shine through in everything they do. From the moment we walked in, they attended to my pup immediately, carefully explained everything, and treated him as if he were their own. In such stressful situations, their kindness gave me tremendous peace of mind. What also stands out is how much they care for pet parents too. They make sure you’re comfortable, offering drinks and water, and always checking in with genuine warmth. Compared to other emergency rooms I’ve been to, the customer service and level of empathy here are unmatched. You never want to find yourself in an emergency room, but knowing that Dr. Servito, Annette, and the VEG team are here makes me feel incredibly fortunate. I’m beyond happy this hospital opened up so close to home, and I wouldn’t trust my pup anywhere else.

A brindle mother cat gave birth on my friend’s patio. She was very thin , very sweet and probably left behind when her people moved. She had 3 nursing kittens and one dragging her back legs. I took them to the Veg (pinecrest) at 8:00 pm. The second I walked in I was welcomed by Rebecca and Estefanie,. They took me to a room, very kind and reassuring . I have been to most Pet Er’s over the years, with my own pets and rescue’s. I expect to be treated accordingly, when in an ER. The team of coordinators and nurses were hands on, attentive , supportive and thoughtful. They provided all information , to my regular Vet , with a report on each kitten and mother, took an x ray , at my request , ruling out a fracture in the little female kitten. The exam room had a comfortable sofa, I was offered coffee and water and did not demand my credit card before talking with me. , The open space , state of the art set up and all around care team exceeded my expectation’s. I am happy to know, we have an excellent Vet emergency hospital in our area! Thank you Dr. Kern, Serena, Rebecca, Anthony and Estefanie… Appreciatively, Wendy Bandklayder Palmetto Bay

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We took our very fearful pitbull mix to VEG in Pinecrest after he was attacked by another dog, and I can’t say enough good things about this place. Our boy has always been nervous and hasn’t had the best experiences at other vets over the years, but the team at VEG was incredible from the moment we walked in. Dr. Castillo did an amazing job with his surgery, and Dr. Rivera is a godsend: she is calm, patient, and so kind, even when this worried pet mom was a mess. Lisbet, our nurse for the first few visits, went above and beyond, literally sitting on the floor with our dog to prep him before surgery and then ensuring he came out of the anesthetic after surgery. The entire team, from check-in to nursing to the vets, showed such empathy and care. They even came outside to check his stitches tonight during a follow-up when he was too scared to go inside. That level of understanding and compassion means everything to us. I truly can’t thank the Pinecrest VEG team enough for how they’ve treated our dog and us throughout this whole experience.

We had an excellent experience bringing our pup, River, to the ER. The entire team was so knowledgeable, caring, and professional. Dr. Castillo was absolutely amazing—thorough, kind, and gentle with our dog. Nurse Desiree was also wonderful and made us feel so comfortable during a stressful time. The facility was spotless and very well organized, and the customer service was fantastic from start to finish. Everyone treated River with such kindness and compassion. We were completely impressed and so grateful for the exceptional care our dog received. Highly recommend!
