How to Save Money at Palm City Animal Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The Vet Techs and Veterinarian were so patient and kind with both of our dogs. This put the dogs and us at ease. We truly appreciate their abilities!

Good crew there. My pets (2dogs) were going in for their yearly check up. One of my dogs who was about 17 years old was in poor health. And not long for the world. My wife and I had been preparing for the day we would have to say goodbye. The team here was polite and courteous to me. Guided me through the decision to let my best friend go. And we're as somber at the fact that he was at his end of life stages. To. These people they see our pets as their own family.

Palm City Animal Medical Center is by far the Best, honest, friendly facility I have been to. I can't say enough about how much I feel comfortable bringing my pets here knowing they will receive the best care. Thank you Elizabeth Jolin and Meghan Harris for going above and beyond to save my English Bulldog Bob. I will forever be grateful for everything you both have done.

Going to be looking for a new vet! As noted in my previous review (on yelp), I have already had one negative experience with this center but gave them the benefit of the doubt after 2 good experiences with Dr. Joline and Dr. Rew. That has now changed after my recent experience. One of my cats was not acting herself and more lethargic than normal. I brought her in. She saw Dr Alazarti (who was very nice and so was his assistant). He could not find anything physically wrong with her so suggested we do a comprehensive metabolic panel with urinalysis to see if anything systemic was going on (total cost was $350 w/additional fee for the urinalysis). Not cheap! They could not get any urine from her as her bladder was empty at the time of the blood draw. So they sent me home with black pellets (less than a handful) to put in her liter box so I could get the sample. My poor girl would not go in the liter box and held it for 15 hours until I finally put a little tiny scoop of her liter in so she knew what it was. She immediately went and was definitely holding it. All this on top of not feeling good! I called to explain what happened and was told the sample was contaminated and could not be used. I asked if I could bring her in to see if they could get some out of her on the second try. That was not a problem and they told me to come in the next day between certain hours. The next thing I know I get a text that I have “vet tech appt” for the next day. I thought they would try again and no cost to me (they literally had her out of the room for about 5 mins to draw blood and try to get urine the first time). When I saw the text, I called to confirm there was no charge but learned they would charge me for a vet tech visit! I said no and asked for more pellets to try this again with her. This is really unacceptable to me that I would be charged again a day and half later to try to finish this test! And my poor kitty now has to be put through this torture again for what would probably take them 2 mins to get from her. After the experience and my previous negative experience I am done with this practice. The more I go, the more it feels like animal factory..get them in and out without a lot of consistency. You never see the same vet and not sure who is really following my kitties to make sure they are healthy. We are looking at a possible diabetes diagnosis with her and I want a vet her knows her and sees her. Very disappointed but have read reviews about other vets in the area who really seem to care about the animals they treat so will be making a switch! I no longer recommend them!

The staff is incredibly nice and friendly. The facility is clean. I am always able to get my dog in last minute if needed. I will say, some of the vets don’t seem to know what they are doing or don’t seem to care. Most of the time I go there I get a bandaid fix to my dogs problems. My favorite vets are Fillip and Jolin. They are a bit pricey compared to other vets.
