How to Save Money at Veterinary Specialty Hospital of Palm Beach Gardens

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We brought our beautiful cat Emily here on emergency. She has inflammatory bowel desease and was not eating and barely drinking. We felt that she needed specialized care or we were going to lose her. Within 3 days she went from being a very sick cat to eating with a voracious appetite! They gave her just the right “cocktail” of medications and she turned the corner and got better. They literally saved her life! A big thank you to Dr. R.T. for the specialized care you provided and thank you so much to the amazing nurses and staff that gave our Emily all that TLC. We are beyond grateful!

I recently had an emergency with my little dog Olive and brought her in for care. I do not remember everyone who helped us out but I’m grateful for Dr. Waters and Dr. Locher for their excellent care and concern as well as everyone who helped us out. I don’t really want to rush back but if I need to, I’ll be bringing her back to VSP.

My dog swallowed oxtail bones and I was very scared when she started throwing up profusely and not acting herself. I went to this animal hospital on Sunday when all the other vet offices were closed / super busy. Upon calling they told me to bring her in ASAP so that they could help me next after the animal they were working with...I arrived in 15 minutes and upon arrival their staff accommodated my dog and I into a room and did proper x rays to find the solution. Today my dog is fine and they just called me to even follow up to see if I had any questions and to make sure My Odie is okay! Staff is awesome and I definitely recommend them!

Do not take your pet to this place. It's mass service in and out business. They don't care about your dog and there only goal is to squeeze you dry with testing. My dog is suffering through Cushing's disease right now. After the first round of medication they tried did not work we were supposed to try a new medication. I placed the order through chewy like they told me to it's been several days and now I find out the prescription is due to be canceled tonight because their office never followed through with approving it! This is a typical Florida business with lazy employees that don't follow up. When I asked them what the problem was and why his medication was never approved because I told them exactly the moment I called it in they had no answer for me. This is because of bad office management and poor communication between the veterinarians and their staff. My dog has been suffering longer than he needs to because of this atrocious business. In addition to that the veterinarian I spoke with showed no compassion and I even caught her rolling her eyes as she walked out the door because I was asking so many questions about my dog. Now I need to find a new specialty hospital in the middle of his treatment because I am convinced that this hospital will kill my dog under their watch.

I highly recommend coming here for taking care of your pets. Yesterday, I had to say goodbye to my golden. Dr. Strauss and the group were so gentle and caring not only to my pet, but to me and my family as well. They walked us through each option, being honest with what was best for our dog; which is the kindest thing I could have asked for. The love they have for pets shows in their work. Thank you all for everything.
