How to Save Money at PrimeVet Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my sick dog here. They were great! Vet services are somewhat expensive, and the place is not cheap ( would you want it to be ?). Their service was absolutely outstanding. They even called back a couple of days later to discuss progress and give pointers.

UPDATE! 3/3/18 My kitty, Squirt, had been battling kidney failure and diabetes for 2 years. The time came where she just couldn’t do it anymore. My husband and I set up a time and went to Dr. McAlpin. Oh My GOSH! The atmosphere was unreal. Lights dimmed, soft music, she came in a spoke softly what will happen. She gave Squirt something to help relax. Then we could take all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. When it was time for Squirt to go to sleep, she was on a comfortable blanket. NOTHING like a standard vets office. It’s nothing like I’ve ever seen before. Dr. McAlpin is just as sad as my husband and I. She doesn’t act like it’s just a job. She treated me, my husband, and Squirt like we were individually special to her. She cares just as much as we do. I’ve had a lot of pets that have had to go to heaven but this is the 1st time I have gone to PrimeVet. Just… unreal. The office was swamped with appointments but it did not show with all the personal time and attention Dr. McAlpin gave us. My husband took a picture of Squirt, me and her hugging. It was right before Squirt went to sleep. Dr. McAlpin hurt just as much as we do. I wish so many more people were as caring about others; thinking about what the OTHER person needs. (from March 3,2018) OMGOSH! This place is amazing!! I had gone to Maverick for years for my cats. Recently, one of my cats, Squirt, was having pain in her mouth. I had no idea why. Maverick vets didn’t see anything. I went to All Animal Clinic. I’ve known the vet there for 35 years but had to stop going because it’s too expensive. That vet said she had gingivitis and gave her some medicine. The medicine was not working so I went here. I should have been going to see Dr. McAlpin at PrimeVet the entire time. She found the cause of Squirt’s pain and it was wayyyy back in the back of her mouth. The other vets didn’t take the time to really open her mouth to look back there. Squirt is now on the proper medicine and has some pain killers so she will eat again. Squirt also has diabetes and kidney failure. She has been stable on subcutaneous fluids for 2 years. I get her updated blood work often. Since I was already at PrimeVet, I had Dr. McAlpin check to see if any changes. Dr. McAlpin did A LOT more detailed blood work than any other vet and I found out information I never knew. They do the blood work while you wait. It doesn’t have to be sent out to another company. I got the results in 15 minutes! This place is definitely a hidden gem. I found out they have been around for only 4 years. I wish they had been here for 35 yrs. The place looks like it would be very expensive but it is not. It’s clean and you can’t smell the “animal smell” in the waiting room. It’s cleaner than some doctor’s offices I’ve been to. This might sounds odd but it’s true. I wasn’t sure I was in the right place. I knew I was when I walked in and saw a board by the reception desk that said, Welcome Squirt. Soooo, sweet and touching. PrimeVet is extremely affordable. Dr. McAlpin and the entire staff are kind and sensitive. Please, I beg of you, go there. You won’t ever see anyone else again.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the employees for such a warm welcome into PrimeVet Animal Hospital. The customer service there is phenomenal. First contact with them, you can just tell their love for animals goes beyond measures and it creates a bond in your heart that your pet will be in great hands. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone who desires open arms, very nice people and a warm welcoming comfortable environment. I had just gotten my baby boy Dolce (Blue Pit) and he was very sick, when I called they were going to schedule me the earliest appointment a week later, but when I gave them the severity of his situation, they squeezed me in the next more. That's how great they really are!!!

Switched to them a few months ago and was happy with the services they provided for one of my pups. I called today and left a second message since the first wasn’t returned as I need to get my other dog in for her annuals and was told they are not taking any new patients…. When one of my dog’s is already their patient… That makes exactly 0 sense to me. So now I have to find another vet for my dog that is their patient already because I don’t want two different vets. Absolutely ridiculous.

Prime Vet, along with all the staff has taken great care of our fur babies and all their needs. We were new to the area and had to make a last minute appointment due to sickness and we were able to get in to Prime. They did such an amazing job we have stayed with them and are very happy with our choice.
