How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Pet owners beware! Unless you are looking for cheap vaccinations go to a REAL vet. My 14 year old pug was diagnosed with heart failure. After $400 in X-rays and consult fees and $200 in meds I was sent home with hope he'd live a few more months. He died in my arms 12 hours later. I requested a refund for the $115 consult I was waiting to receive but was told they already reviewed his X-rays and they wouldn't refund. I never got the consult,I was told it could take up to 2 days but he only lived 12 hours so I'm confused at what I still paid for.....just heartbreak, false hope and a dead dog,and they literally sold me every expensive medication they could and gave me false hope so I would buy. We would do anything for our pets and these folks feed off that. Worst experience of my life and I am floored at the lack of empathy or emotion that comes out of a place that's designed around CARE for your pet! Tried having his nails done ONECE and they cut 4 of his quicks, negative 5 stars and a huge SHAME ON YOU!

Honestly, I don't normally write reviews but I have to for this clinic. I've had a wonderful experience bringing my male cats here for various reasons and every member of the staff has displayed professionalism and compassion throughout the whole process for each of my boys as well as my partner and I. I recently brought my youngest cat in for a specific quick diagnostic test after a night at the emergency vet and him being ill without explanation. I knew that Vetco didn't have room for a sick visit so I told them I would schedule it for a few days later, no big deal, just wanted a test done for peace of mind. They instead were SO invested and made time for my fur baby, going above and beyond to find some answers and were amazingly compassionate toward my pet and I. I've also brought another one of my boys here for general health and Asthma treatment and he is currently doing great with no asthma symptoms for several months. I am so thankful for the staff at this clinic for helping my fur babies maintain quality of life and for their devotion to their work.

I scheduled an appointment and had 3 calls and two texts to confirm...a bit overkill but ok. They wanted $173 for an exam and basic shots for my dog. $60 of this is the exam which has increased 2x this year according to their staff. They are trying to push people to the $20/month vetco plan. Well, they pushed me for sure... Right out the door.

First time using PetCo veterinary services in Orange City. Scheduled same day appointment online, very easy. When we arrived we were served promptly, given pricing for the vaccinations and testing needed. Felt pricing inline or less than previous veterinary offices. I was very pleased with the vet, Dr Gonzalez. My only complaint is that we are left in waiting room while my pet is taken back to see the vet. I don’t like that. This policy was implemented during Covid restrictions and there is no need for it any longer. I want to be present with the vet when examining my little guy! I am giving 5 stars for overall performance but stop using covid rules!
