How to Save Money at Humane Society of Marion County Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

i brought in my cat hyder today for a spay, distemper, rabies vaccines, and flea treatment, they did so good with her. i’m so happy that she’s finally home safely and fixed and up to date with shots. i paid 80 for all of it. they didn’t charge me for the distemper shot either. this place is the cheapest to go to and your supporting the company for animals that are in the shelter as well, i liked seeing the people come in and donate food, litter, treats etc. i might have to do that soon because they treated her amazingly

Okay considering they did reimbursed me the cost it took for an emergency vet in Springhill FL off of Forest oaks by the way awesome staff and certified surgeon. Also if it wasn't for an incredible person to have those funds to borrow in such a time of need. With out this emergency surgery to have to go in and close up what HAOMC animal clinic failed to do in a neutering process leaving my poor baby girl to bleed internally. When I went to pick up my reimbursement check no one cared to know how my poor baby girl was doing no sympathy no apologies. For I had a prior review posted and I was asked by the person I borrowed money from because the director had asked her to have me remove the post and then they would send the check out. In sheer respect to my borrrower I did so by that I felt ashamed because I have the right to speak my opinion also leave a review on my experience to help navigate people to making a decision or choices to who they pick for what service they are looking to have done. I know this was a freak accident but it was an accident that should have never happened and I want pet lovers and owners to always remember what you are getting yourself into as well as for example emergency expenses please look into having some kinda care card or insurance even a rainy day stash for if you are ever in a life or death situation. Had I not of known one person to call my dog was going to die. Humane society of Marion county have great reviews but just because they have these reviews don't always mean they didn't pay to keep negative reviews down. My baby girl is alive but she will always be scarred with a foot long incision that was only supposed to be the length of a adult pinky. Btw the check was to the exact penny and I lost $120 of it from amscot fee. So i got back $2899.69 lol

It's hard to say positive things when you go someplace to put down your pet. With that being said, aside from being devastated, I've had some time to consider the process... I must first say how impressed I was by the staff. This is something that they were clearly very experienced with. And they exercised great care to be sure that my dog, myself, and my wife were comfortable. Whereas we knew what the prime objective was, it's very difficult to say your final goodbye to your friend that you'd cared for his entire life. I was impressed with the facilities, how clean and well designed everything was. I did not feel hurried or rushed in any way. And we were afforded as much privacy as was required. So to sum up the the entire situation, I'd say that I was made to feel as comfortable as possible at a very difficult time, and that I appreciate so much of what the entire staff put into that to ensure I was doing the right thing at right time. I'd like to say "thank you" for all that you did for my dog, and my family feels greatful for your services.

parking was a little crazy, I don't know if it was just one of those days or if it's like that all the time but the parking spaces were full. I spent maybe 30 min maybe a little more in the lobby before I was called back. doctor came in promptly, gave me allot of good advice for my pet, checked him out and sent me on my way. I am pleased with how my visit went.

Brought in a puppy I took in because her sibling had to be put down due to parvo. They immediately helped me get her tested (positive) and treated with a new parvo medication that came out. I'm pretty sure they saved her life and they handled her with such care. I could never show my appreciation enough for them. They have a brochure online for their prices as well. I found them to be more reasonable than other vet offices.
