How to Save Money at Embassy Veterinary Center & Pet Retreat Tampa

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First appointment with our dog was easy to make. We saw the Dr. within a week of calling as a new patient. Staff was warm and helpful. Dr. Fiore took time to learn our dog's history and even called on Saturday with results of blood work. Looking forward to working with this group which is 5 minutes from our home. So far, I'm impressed

This is hands down the best vet in the area. From expertise in pet medicine, to kindness in their service to their patients, as well as timely appointments, and willingness to squeeze in emergent care. They helped us put down our 12 year old black lab mix back in November. Somehow, they made an extremely difficult goodbye more bearable with their compassion. We have also had our two kittens cared for and a recently spayed. The care received was outstanding. Today, I was in a bit of a bind with a home repair and needed to board our 11 week old puppy. They took the best care of her and she came back so tired from all the loving attention. We are so thankful to the wonderful staff at Embassy Veterinary Center

Based on our personal experience, we strongly discourage anyone from using Embassy Veterinary Center & Pet Retreat for veterinary care, boarding, or grooming. Despite their attractive new building and convenient location, our overall experience was disappointing. While our veterinary encounter was somewhat satisfactory, the grooming and boarding services were extremely poor. We had reservations about the staff from the beginning, and our concerns were later validated. Please find below an objective assessment of our experience: During our facility tour and boarding evaluation, we were assured that we would receive regular updates on our pets, including pictures and general information via text. However, this promise was not fulfilled. On the first day, after dropping off our pets at 2 pm, we received no pictures, texts, or updates. We had to call the next morning to inquire about our pets' well-being. Embassy claimed their app was malfunctioning, but their subsequent excuse (the overnight staff don't have access to the app) contradicted this statement, clearly indicating dishonesty. We discovered the presence of a hard plastic pole in the back of the facility, with a wire rope attached that, shockingly, accordingly to a tech, could and has been used on animals in their care. Despite booking a VIP suite for our pets' boarding, we arrived to find all the VIP suites already occupied. During pickup, we were not provided with any overall feedback on our pets' stay. Furthermore, the staff misplaced one of our pets' beds and failed to return several items we had brought with us. They carelessly dumped the items in the front lobby without making any effort to properly prepare them for discharge. Upon pickup, I witnessed a female groomer, approximately 22 years old with orange hair, mishandling a small dog during the grooming process. The dog was clearly uncomfortable, and unbeknownst to the groomer, I observed her saying to the dog, "Fine, if you don't want me to do this, I won't." She then proceeded to the front desk, updated some notes in the computer, and asked her colleague, "Should we still charge them?" The two individuals at the front desk display a complete lack of customer service skills. They consistently fail to greet customers when they enter. As the face of the organization, these administrative assistants are unwelcoming, awkward, and difficult to work with. After experiencing all the aforementioned issues, I requested to speak with the manager in an effort to provide constructive feedback and express our concerns about the need for improvement in their services and care. Unfortunately, the manager displayed a complete lack of interest. This further affirms our decision to never utilize this business again, as it reflects the type of person managing this location. The attached pictures were taken on 05/29/2023. It is noteworthy that the entire parking lot was empty, despite the claim that there would be staff on-site during the night to support boarding operations. This raises significant questions. We hope that this honest feedback will help Embassy recognize the significant areas where they can improve their services and provide better care to the animals entrusted to their care.

Celebrating a YEAR in this 11,000 sq ft animal heaven, I recently attended a mixer with the Greater Pasco Chamber of Commerce. I never would have known Embassy Vet existed otherwise. The facility is SPOTLESS, offering every animal service a pet parent could ask for. From healthy dieting, boarding, medical services, pet maintenance, boarding, pet parties & soon pet play dates Embassy has it ALL! Reasonably priced BUT for true pet parents, the number one decision maker: CARE matters & is top priority. Let me tell you, this is your one-stop shop for the finest in pet care. I have never boarded an animal, EVER! My 6-year-old pit bull mix, Gigi, IS my only child. This is her forever vet, no comparison to any other in Pasco OR Hillsborough Counties. I could not recommend any higher than to say they are my new go-to. Spread the word, visit Embassy & you will write a similar review. 🐾🐾🏆🐾

10/10 recommend Embassy Veterinary! My pup loves the pool & meeting new doggy friends. The vet staff is incredible. Very knowledgeable & gave prices before doing anything to my dogs. They give so much love & make them comfortable in a situation that could be stressful. The groomers also did an amazing job bathing & trimming my dog. He always comes home so happy! Highly recommend!
