How to Save Money at Veterinary Behavior Solutions

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had an amazing experience at Dr. Lynn‘s office with my dog. I brought him in as he was showing some signs of aggression in the past I just wanted to find ways to help him and for me to learn as much as I could. Dr. Lynn was very knowledgeable and took her time throughout the whole two hour consultation to go over her suggested ideas and games and made me and my dog feel extremely comfortable. I know this can be an expensive investment in your dog, but it is definitely worth it. We came away a lot more knowledgeable and more confident.

Dr Honeckman was great wih my pup. We drove from Tampa to see her. When we went in there, it was like doggie disneyland for my boy! He has storm phobia and it was overcast - I was expecting him to be completely shut down. She made the office so fun for him though! He had so much fun, he actually lied down and slept at the end! And let me tell you - his anxiety normally prevents him from relaxing. She was thorough, listened, and has helped us along the way with adjustments needed for his medication. I have implemented what she suggested and it has made a difference. He still struggles, but it is manageable to live with now and I feel like we are on a good track for continuing to make his life less stressful and more fun (as well as mine!). Thank you Dr Honeckman for helping pups!

If your having any type of behavioral issues with your pet please contact Dr Honeckman at Veterinary Behavioral Solutions, she is extremely knowledgeable in animal behavior and very thorough in her questioning which helps to get to the underlying issue of what's causing your pets problem(s). Having owned and fostered Shiba Inu's for 2 decades we acquired Chip a 4 year old Shiba Inu from the Flagler Humane Society due to him being a habitual bitter which had caused him to be passed from rescue to rescue multiple times. During the first 3 months Chip had badly bitten my husband and I a total of 7 times... I was at the point of giving up until I come across Veterinary Behavioral Solutions information and seeing that Dr Honeckman had worked many years at one of the largest humane societies in America.... I knew at that point this Veterinarian would have been subjected multiple times to just about every behavioral issue possible and that was exactly the experienced type of Veterinarian Chip needed! Well longer story short, since first seeing Dr Honeckman it has been almost 4 months since Chip has bitten or even has tried to bite! No lie... It takes lots of work on our part also but Chip is totally worth it 😍 Thank you Dr. Honeckman ❤️ UPDATE! We are now at Chip's 2 year Happy Gotcha Day anniversary and about a year and a half since Chip's first visit to Dr. Honeckman... Thankfully there has been ZERO bite episodes!!! 🥰

Dr. Honeckman is amazing! She was very prepared and knowledgeable on how to handle my very difficult dog. He had a good time, and he hates people! Highly recommend Dr. Honeckman if you need veterinary behavior assistance.

Dr. Honeckman is excellent. Very caring and knowledgeable. We started seeing her a year ago because of a 'challenging' rescue puppy who, with her help, is now developing into a wonderful addition to our family.
