How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Northwood Oaks Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Our first visit was amazing. Taylor was phenomenal with our dogs, especially our shy girl. We had a great experience with Dr. Hampton as well as the rest of the staff we encountered. I am very thankful they are there. Naomi has been helping us so much with our health certificate docs as well. She was our first contact with this practice.

We love this pet clinic. We have had our big dog injured by a compound fracture, a cat with major dental disease, end of life help, mysterious illnesses in feral cats, and general health maintenance on numerous pets over the years, and these wonderful people really care for our babies! I highly recommend them! Their prices are pretty much a match to any vet you will find. So if you have a need, they will be there with you every step of the way!

Brought my dog in with an ear infection to oaks on 34th st, the vet asst/tech was great but then the vet (guy with long hair) came in with this schpeel which started out by saying my dog has a ruptured ear drum, to which I asked him halfway through his script to run up the price by instilling fear how did he know she had a ruptured ear drum SINCE HE HAD NOT EVEN SEEN HER. She was in the room with me the entire time and the tech did not put a scope in her ear to check. He seemed a little surprised to be caught and studdered and said based on her symptoms it was probably that's what she had, to which I pointed out that's not what he said, he said it was ruptured. That attempt to push a doom and gloom diagnosis came with 3 antibiotics that they sell and earwash and drops that they sell also. I ended up getting their earwash and had them call in antibiotics to Publix which ended up being about 90% less than what they were attempting to charge. I felt I was being(attempted to be) preyed upon by pulling on ones emotional attachment to their dog. Bottom line the earwash and Publix antibiotics worked and I saved over $400 from what they were trying to charge. Decided to only post this after I found a fantastic vet and it cemented what I initially felt with these people. Definitely beware when dealing with these people as the will definitely try to make the most amount of money off of you while playing on your love for your pet. Alachua animal hospital is an outstanding vet I would recommend Update- Funny how now there seems to be "concern" now about how I was treated after I post a review on Google. However when they called to "check" on Bella (my dog) I expressed my dissatisfaction then and was dismissed by the lady that called with a "well I don't know about that", as she kept chugging along asking questions about my dog in what felt like an attempt to continue to push/sell treatment, not act like they had any concern over the "treatment" we received during our visit, like they showed in the reply to my review .. Bella Miranda is my dog's name, if that's not good enough I can post screenshots of the emails you sent proving you did treat her. Also, after looking at your reviews (which you haven't responded to) I see plenty of other people felt the same exact way. We all can't be telling the same lie, just saying.. To add context to this for anyone reading, I brought my dog here for 8 YEARS. The service was never out of this world but it wasn't terrible either, a little pricey but they were close to where I live so it worked out for me. However over the years the "compassion" was getting less and less and the business feel kept on becoming more evident visit after visit. Only after this last visit did I decide to finally cut ties and because of the outstanding service I received at our new vet did I decide to voice my experience to anyone who wanted to research this vet. 2nd Update After stating my dog's name, unsurprisingly I haven't received any phone calls nor email from this "concerned" vet. Also unsurprisingly, they erased their reply. Clients, beware

If you value integrity in the slightest, don’t bring your pets here. The employees are kind and obviously love animals, but whoever makes the business decisions for this establishment is a crook. There are PLENTY of other options out there for your pet’s healthcare. I would put Northwood Oaks on 53rd and 34th at the very bottom of the list when looking for a good vet for your pet.
