How to Save Money at Viscaya Prado Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I called my vet because my little guy injured his hip and I needed hi. To be seen right away. My vet told me they were to busy and recommended Viscaya Prado Veterinary Hospital. I called and they co I ld see him in an hour which was fine because it is a bit further than my vet. I arrived early they checked me in and explained the Vet had an emergency co e in and I may have to wait a bit. They kept me updated and got me as soon as possible. The technician was so sweet and made sure my little guy was okay. The doctor came in, she was so good with him, suggested a few things but knew his problem , gave me meds to help him and asked me to call her in a few days to check on him. For an emergency the bill was surprising less than I pay my current vet. Needless to say I am changing to Viscaya Prado.

If I could give 1 star I would. Money grabbing establishment. Brought my dog 3 days ago had pneumonia 700$ later they say to call back if he worsens to see what c Can be done. Fast forward to today trying to get more antibiotics a Or a steroid they want me to bring him back. They know hes aggressive and hard to get near to xray etc. So now they want to charge me another vet visit on top of whatever else instead of just calling in the prescription. I dont even know how dr edwards got her license. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. The technicians don't do anything to try to help starting to wonder how much they really know.

Absolutely amazing care from Dr. Mason Freed, he was so compassionate and kind to my dog, Luna. The first doctor we had there, Dr. Milton McKelvie, just seemed to want to rush and charge us as much money as possible. I had brought my dog in with concerns of a mass on her leg. Dr. McKelvie spent less than 5 minutes examining my dog and said “yup that needs to come out” and gave us a referral for over $1000. So we came in for a second opinion, same clinic, different doctor. Dr. Freed took his time examining Luna thoroughly and gave us several options and what he thought would be best for not only Luna but our wallet. Overall, Dr. Freed saved us over $500 and Luna is already feeling much better and going to an oncologist Dr. Freed recommended.

I was so worried about getting my rabbit neutered, but this place had given me the comfort I needed to get him neutered. Dr. McKelvie did an amazing job, when my bun came home he was a little groggy but still as curious and active as ever (although I had to limit his activity of course). I dont even think he noticed he just went through surgery lol. Absolutely affordable, and they took GREAT care of him!!! Im happy to have a local place that is well versed in rabbit care! Although, the only criticism I have is when I called to schedule the surgery for my rabbit, one of the receptionists said to fast my rabbit the day before. Rabbits should NEVER be fasted, as they cannot vomit and it's deadly. A mistake like that CAN cost a pets life. If you are working at a mixed practice, please be well versed in the exotics that come in as well!

Love love Laidy and Dr. P and all the staff that we see monthly. My boys love them all. Best Vet for my boys. Never had an issue like I have had with other places. Happy boy is on the way home back to Punta Gorda.
