How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Waited over a week to get the pup in due to a problem with swollen gums and eye irritation. When I arrive to my appointment, they confirmed that they would do tests but after tests and medicine it would be over $250?? My vet down the street would have gotten him in sooner.. What makes it worse, when I pick up my pup, they basically just hand him off and I’m the one having to ask a ton of questions just to find out any info. My pups gums are bad and he clearly has an infection and their advice is to contact a vet teeth cleaning place because it’s not included in my plan.. You turned my dog away when you could clearly tell something is wrong and won’t even prescribe or recommend any product to help?? I pay $100 a month for a membership for you what? There’s random fees every time I stop by Banfield. This place is a joke. You can never get ahold of any body, the vet won’t even come out and talk to you. Sending my pup away with an infection and not prescribing anything is inhumane. I truly cannot recommend staying away from Banfield. All their locations are just as terrible

I was a Banfield customer for 3 years where my cat had normal, routine check-ups under their wellness plan. However the past three visits, the vets/nurses say they were unable to treat my cat because she was anxious and/or lunging at them. I had explained this multiple times to each new vet and even took her to a different location with the same results. I offered to stay with my cat in the room and the nurse was condescending and said it's usually the mom (me) who are anxious about their babies and that they only do drop-offs. I once again had to pay for a visit that had zero outcomes. Would not recommend.

Terrible vet. My dog had an appointment last week, and they canceled it the morning of, saying they didn’t have a doctor. This week, my dog had the same appointment, and they left a voicemail yesterday saying they might need to cancel again because they possibly won’t have a doctor, again. This morning, I’ve called twice trying to speak with someone to confirm whether or not my dog can be seen. I was going to leave a voicemail, but guess what, the voicemail box is full, so I can’t even do that. This place is terrible. If you want your pet to be seen in a timely manner, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Dr. Michael is a very knowledgeable and compassionate vet based on the one appointment I had here so this review should not be interpreted to reflect her level of care. However, despite Dr. Michael ordering a urine analysis for my dog based on her blood test results, it has been well over a month since I provided my dog’s sample and nobody from the Banfield office will return my call with results. I’ve paid for the testing and left no less than four voicemails asking about the results. Nobody has ever contacted me back despite repeated efforts simply asking for the results of the test the vet ordered as urgent. Do not go to this vet office they are not responsive at all. The front desk employees are mostly unprofessional and unorganized in person and over the phone.

3/5: OVERALL 5/5: VET STAFF 1/5: COMMUNICATION Made an appointment online for an in-person visit with coupon. Received a call a day later confirming a drop-off appointment. I stated that I'd scheduled in-person, and the receptionist said no problem. Arrived at 12:20 for a 12:30 appointment. A receptionist (different) checked me in and asked for vaccination records, which I had forgotten to bring. He said no problem and that he would call the providing clinic. 1:00pm - still waiting (30min). Asked the receptionist, who said they were behind. Several staff said that the clinic didn't really do in-person, but it was offered as an option online. Eventually he said he needed the previous clinic to email the vaccination record before I could be seen, which was not at all made clear. Finally put in a room at 1:20 and seen at 1:30 (after 1hr). After a LOVELY 15 minute visit, the vet said my cat needed an antibiotic. The nurse said he would speak to a receptionist about the price. I waited 20 minutes, but no one returned. Left the room to ask what was going on, if I could just get a written prescription so I could leave. Everyone was apologetic for the communication failures and, after another 10 minutes, I had the medication. I left happy with the vet staff but very, very frustrated with the poor communication and the long waits. CONCLUSIONS/SUGGESTIONS: - improve the communication with clients. If something is essential, remind them on the confirmation call. Tell clients, esp. new, what to expect. - if the location is unable to provide in-person visits, work harder to remove that option from the standard online scheduling. Fix other glitches. - get the staff all on the same page and same understanding. - keep loving the little and big animals as much as you all clearly do. People appreciate open communication and would rather know, even if its negative.
