How to Save Money at Central Hospital For Veterinary Medicine- Guilford
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We were sent away from another emergency vet and in our state of panic were helped by this clinic instead! And I am so thankful and grateful we were. We had an amazing experience from the the first phone call to when we left. They are very compassionate and truly do care. The front desk receptionist is amazing, fast, understanding, and straight to the point! Perfect for an emergency situation! The nurse that helped us (Morgan) was fun, sweet, kind, and energetic! It made us feel very comfortable giving our puppy over to her. The veterinarian doctor, even while busy still took the time to answer questions and fully explain everything to us! The people In the waiting room even were very friendly and you could tell their spirits had been raised by the amazing help from the staff! I hope to never have to go back to an emergency clinic, but if we have to this will be the first place we go!

For PIPPA reasons, I won't show my pup. I was blown away by the service and care here! We called ahead and explained our situation. When we arrived I carried Beau in and the receptionist was waiting. She called in triage, and they began working right away. The DVM came in, and she spent at least 30 minutes compassionately explaining the condition and our options. We do not have pet insurance, and the bill was not high. Beau is stable, on meds, and we will be visiting our vet on Monday. Thank you for being there when we needed you and caring for Beau like he was your own.

I don’t normally leave reviews but felt I had to this time. I went to Central Vet Hospital in Guilford a few days ago. I have a mobile vet so there are certain things she’s unable to do as she doesn’t have an office with all the necessary equipment etc. My dog injured her foot and her dew claw was pretty much hanging off, bleeding and probably very painful. My vet came out and was unable to remove it and could not really sedate her as she was not having it! I called 4 other places, I was told they would not be able to see my dog as it was not a serious “emergency.” I called Guilford and explained the situation. I do understand that being an emergency hospital, they would have to take the patients who were most urgent, Of course!! I arrived with my dog Baby and my backpack packed as I figured I would be there for hours. Someone came out right away and took my dog in the back. Literally less than 5 minutes later the vet came walking out with Baby! They just clipped her dew claw like that!! And guess what??? Dr Rebecca Smith, DVM looked at me and the front desk staff and said you’re all set, no charge. NO CHARGE!!!!! I almost had a heart attack!! The front desk ladies and Dr Smith could not have been any nicer!!!! I’ve been to other emergency vets and would never go back to any of them!! I highly recommend Central Vet in Guilford!

I called in to this Vet as I am from out of town and my dog was sick. They took her in immediately. They explained everything they wanted to do as well as how much it would cost. They were super kind and compassionate at a time where I wasn't sure if she would make it. (Turns out my girl will be ok! :-) I was so thankful for how they followed up and for how good they were to us! Definitely recommend!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. They clearly don't have enough doctors on staff. There was one when I got there yesterday around 5:30. Before I went there and when I got there, I let them know that I had a financial issue and had resorted to starting a gofundme page for my cat's care. Despite that, after the dr told me she suspected it was cancer, she tried to sell me $7K worth of diagnostics even though I said I wouldn't be able to do cancer treatment nor want to put my cat through that. I said I would take her home and make arrangements with my own vet to put her to sleep, which I'm did today. Here's the kicker- She sold me $65 worth of meds for a dying cat. Do the docs get paid by how much they bill? Can only the wealthy have pets now? The prices here are outrageous and it's predatory to squeeze people dry when they're desperate to take care of their animals. It's just disgusting. When I called today to complain the girl on the phone got angry and nasty because I said I was going to rate them all over social media. Then she hung up on me. Go anywhere else. The only plus I can say is that the vet techs and most of the front desk staff are lovely. Do yourself a favor and go to another hospital.
