How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Rio Cucharas Veterinary Clinic

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Long story short, Doc Romy and her team fixed up both my dog and my horse after a dog attacked both of them. Our dog needed stitches for a gaping wound on her throat, they got her in first thing that next morning and she was right as rain. My horse took a bit longer to show the seriousness of his injuries and it was after hours when we saw HOW bad it was. Doc came out to the ranch! After a long day of clients and she was still chipper, compassionate and professional. She put me at ease, got us the things we needed that could no longer be secured by civilians, and treated my old horse with respect. Doc Romy even followed up with us over the weekend to see how he was doing! It’s hard to find a good veterinarian these days. And She’s the real deal. Great team.

Dr. Nicoletta and Dr. Hay have taken good care of our dogs, horses and cattle! The vet assistants are awesome too. Dr Nicoletta traveled out to our place late on a Friday night to treat a rattlesnake bite on my 32 year old gelding. He is alive and well, thanks to her dedication to her profession. The photos are the night of the bite and the morning after. It's now a month out and he is back to his old, ornery self and no lameness is evident!

Dr Nicoletta is one of the most compassionate vets I have ever seen. She really knows her stuff and takes the time to explain everything but she also is so extremely kind to pets and seems to care about every animal she sees. My dogs responded to her instantly, even my very shy dog loved her. Her staff is excellent too!! I would recommend this office to anyone!

Called Rio Cucharas on 2/8/22 to inform them that my cat had blood in her urine. The receptionist said there would be no vets on duty until Monday, 2/14. She assured me she'd call me on Thursday to let me know when I could bring my cat in. It's now Friday., 4PM and I haven't heard back. This is the second time I have called this clinic (the first was for an abscessed tooth my cat suffered) and, again, no vet available. What's the point of even trying anymore? Done with them. So I get a response that they're not accepting new patients at this time. Maybe the receptionist should be better trained to alert people to this. Can't believe they don't care enough to see a cat for crying-pout-loud. This clinic obviously doesn't care about animal welfare. Their concern lies in managing their work load and over-charging for euthanasia (they charged me $100.00 to euthanize my dog!) Thanks for nothing.

I am very disappointed with the lack of professionalism at this clinic. They don't seem to care about my 14 yr old dog. Not only do they not call you back but when you go there for an appointment the door is locked. They say due to a surgery. Well thanks for the call to reschedule. Not only did I miss time from work but it wasted 2 hours of my day and my 14 year old dog was not seen. I highly recommend finding a different vet. I sure did.
