How to Save Money at Woodmoor Veterinary Hospital & Pet Lodge

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The vet and tech were exceptionally great with my old dog, who actually napped in the office because it was so low stress. I loved how caring they were, getting on the floor with her, offering options so I could choose based on my finances, and thoroughly explaining everything. Highly recommend!

We have used Woodmoor for our pets for many years. Today we sadly had to say goodbye to one of our dogs. We have always had a great experience but today was above and beyond what we could've imagine. The genuine care, love, and guidance was overwhelmingly comforting and professional. Everyone that works at Woodmoor Veterinary Hospital truly takes pride in what they do and treats every pet like their own. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you to your entire staff for making a horrible day bearable.

When I showed up on the wrong day for my appointment during a busy holiday weekend Woodmoor Veterinary Hospital treated my best friend as though she was their own. They genuinely listened to my concerns and tears and made time for her even though I mixed the date up and they were booked solid. My scared and anxious baby was treated with respect and her boundaries were honored by every single member of the team. Dr. Ivy is the sweetest, kindest person you will meet. She has a heart of gold. Dr. Homme is extremely detailed and thorough in his diagnosis. He handled my Eleven with the highest level of care and gave me a report I could understand. He asks all of the questions and takes great care with your family member. Nurse Alida is an angel from heaven. She has so much compassion and empathy. She understands how scary these uncertain times are for you and your bestie. She shows grace in every interaction and makes sure you and your friend are comfortable with every step of the process. To say I am grateful would be the biggest understatement. My Eleven is not a pet to me; she is a huge piece of my heart. Thank you to ALL of your team members for taking as much care for us as you would for your own family. We are thankful.

Update: I feel like a broken record, but Dr. Homme is amazing! We found a lump under the chin of one of our pups. He was able to get an aspirate sample and take a look under the microscope on the spot. It wasn't good news but he was able to give us a heads up so we could start looking for an oncologist right away. Since she has a very aggressive form of cancer, this saved us valuable time while waiting for confirmation from the pathologist. I think we've seen every doctor at this practice and they are all wonderful! Lately, we've been seeing a lot of Dr. Homme, and he is very patient with my zillions of questions. He explains everything very thoroughly and is a great "medical detective". I can't recommend Woodmoor Veterinary Hospital enough!

The receptionist is super rude. When I asked about some surprise charges her response to every question was "I don't know, I wasn't in the room". The bandages they applied and overcharged me for did not even last 24 hours. I do not recommended taking your pet there. I've had a very positive experience with Palmer Lake Veterinary Hospital. Unfortunately this was an emergency and I went with Woodmoor Veterinary Hospital & Pet Lodge which I regret.
