How to Save Money at VCA Milliken Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
After 10 years of bringing my 13-15 lb dog here, I can personally attest this place a solid 5 stars (I’d choose more if I could), and I’m so happy to leave them a thorough review. All the staff here truly treat your animal like a member of the family, in my experience. They pour love like it freely flows from a pitcher of kindness, taking the utmost care to make sure your pet is as looked after as possible. Our pup happens to absolutely love coming in and seeing the staff’s happy, attentive expressions (but I know some pets get anxious, and I’ve seen them handle their nervous guests with so much care). In addition to the staff, the doctors are beyond top notch, and it’s clear they also love your pet like their own. They’re not afraid to collaborate with other VCA professionals, which is helpful if your critter needs specialized care. My partner and I no longer live in Milliken, but we drive from over 15 miles to get her checked here (when we don’t need an ER). I know some reviews talk negatively of the expenses, but I can understand how veterinary supplies and treatments have become more complex, successful, and innovative; for which there is a price. For me, even during financial struggle, I think of my pet as a member of my family. Given the veterinary medical industry and economy drives such prices, I’m still honored and happy to bring my sweet pup here as she healthily goes well into her teens. Mine is a “frequent flyer” in need of monthly visits, and it’s a joy to bring the fur baby in for her treatment and general care. It’s my belief that the dedicated team here is a huge part of why she’s so healthy and happy. I hope we have many more years bringing the current four-legged kiddo in, and any future doggies, my partner and I are definitely making the trek to VCA Milliken. It’s well worth it to us. Thank you, all of you, for everything you do!!

I cannot explain how amazing this place was to us. The amount of care and love they put into their job is commendable. My dog sharpie was at the end of his life and they went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable and when the day came we had to put him down, the staff went above and beyond for us and sharpie. In our sadness they explained everything that was going to happen thoroughly and they gave us so much time with him. I will never forget their kindness.

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 I came into this vet on April 25th 2025 for a bacterial skin infection that took me over a month to get scheduled with this vet because they are now down to one doctor and very little staff, because it seems like this particular clinic has a high turnover rate of veterinarians and general staff, so when I came in to have my dogs bacterial skin infection treated, I was told go ahead and use a Cytopoint point injection to rewire my dog's brain to get him to stop scratching, but was refused an antibiotic which would have cleared the bacterial skin infection. Instead, I was provided a GenOne spray that is topical that has a small steroids in it that may or may not help with the bacterial skin infection when I tried to speak with a Dr. Susan Me any about how I did not feel that it was allergy related and that the cytopoint injection would not actually cure the bacterial skin infection, she just continued to go round in circles and then brought up the point that I needed to get him a rabies shot, but when I expressed to the doctor, my concerns with him having a bacterial skin infection and like hives all over his body, if we gave him a rabies shot, I would not be able to tell if there would be an allergic reaction, and this could kill my animal. The vet had nothing to say!! This morning I got a call after leaving a nasty text message how am I animal is still not doing well and then I did not get the help that I needed and requested when I was in their office so I had to have a nice little chat with the office manager by the name of Chandra to try to explain to me that she's not a veterinarian she can't provide me any medication but to go ahead and bring him back in for a recheck and then pay for the antibiotics that you could have received on the 25th when you were here but that veterinarian refuse to give them to you so when I expressed to her that I would have to take an entire day off of work to have my animal be seen by the vet and now I no longer have money because I have the money on the 25th when I went to see you and now I don't have any money now my dog is suffering and you are the my dog's suffering because again, its taking me over a month to get in to see a vet, and when I did see if that, and I expressed my concerns, I was brushed off and then told to come back in today and spend even more money to re correct an issue that should have been fixed on the 25th!! DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE IF YOU WANT PROPER TREATMENT!! THEY WILL BLEED YOU DRY AND HAVE NO REMORSE FOR YOUR ANIMALS!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Our dog Jazz was starting to have trouble urinating and didn't eat her morning breakfast. I thought she had a simple infection or kidney stones. The vet very kindly fit her in at 4:30 that day. However it was discovered she had cancer... her prognosis was quite grim. She no doubt was starting to suffer and would have suffered far worse had they not got her as quick as they did. I'm forever grateful for that. The vet explained everything to me clearly and compassionately. Treated everyone with compassion and dignity. It took quite some time to euthanize her as she was fighting the sedative. Yet they didn't rush the process even tho it was getting quite late, as it took time to get an accurate diagnosis. Still it made an unexpected loss a little easier by their kindness shown. The entire staff is caring and compassionate. Just a great cohesive crew. I couldn't have asked more from them. They each went above and beyond for our beloved ole pup.

I called in distress at 3pm heading back from picking up a new puppy in Denver….the puppy unfortunately had blood in her stools and I have two other animals at home. No way would I take her home to expose the others to ?? I was in by 4pm and she was treated promptly with professional and compassionate care!! My fur babies will never go anywhere else, they love them!
