How to Save Money at Tender Care Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff were absolutely amazing when we had to rush our dog in after a cut kwik. whole team was super understanding and got us in fast. Hannah and Bella were so helpful and made our experience quick and easy. They were so gentle and reassuring with our dog, and explained everything really well. Our dog has terrible anxiety and they handled it without issues. It's such a comfort knowing we have such a caring and professional vet looking after our animals. Seriously, highly recommend them!

I just took my basset hound to tender care for sutures on her ear. We have been going to them for all of our animals ever since we moved out to Calhan. The staff and veterinarians are simply incredible kind, patient, caring, and competent. Absolutely will always recommend them. Our animals have received excellent care every single time we have gone. They are a little bit pricier than other vets, but worth every penny.

If possible, I strongly recommend avoiding the Falcon location. I will be going only to the other Colorado Springs location from now on, which is a shame because I live less than three minutes from the Falcon office. Dr. Fusco is extremely sweet on the surface, but I found her to be very dismissive and inattentive. She did not appear to fully listen to what I was saying or take my concerns seriously. While I was speaking about important issues, she seemed focused on her own tasks and moved on without acknowledging what I had shared. It felt as though my input as a patient did not matter. Her behavior came across as unprofessional and lacking basic bedside manners. When a patient is directly expressing concerns, they deserve eye contact, active listening, and thoughtful responses. Instead, I felt ignored and rushed. After she left the room, there was no follow-up or closing communication, which made the interaction feel abrupt and impersonal. As a healthcare professional myself, I would never treat my patients in such a disrespectful manner. When someone shares concerns with me, I make sure they feel heard, validated, and understood. Unfortunately, that level of care and professionalism was not present during this visit.

Our cat was brought into Urgent Care for vomiting blood and explosive, bloody diarrhea. They did bloodwork and documented they didn't do the platelet count correctly and therefore could not get an accurate count. Our cats count was 46 while the lower numbers on the "safe" scale do not go below 600. They documented that it wasn't a good draw and instead of repeating the test to get accurate numbers. They felt this was acceptable. Platelet count shows if the blood is clotting, a number that would be important with how my cat was presenting. This was after them sending the cat home hypersalivating from nausea and bleeding from a "sanitary shave" that left him torn apart and bleeding. I had also been overcharged for medications by over 200 dollars. I had previously called to discuss this and had to call multiple times due to Jessica (the manager) refusing to return calls. After finally discussing the last issue of the bloodwork I informed her that we would be filing charges with DORA. She told me that she would discuss the situation with the owner and return my call. Instead she called the police and tried to have them intimidate me into leaving them alone. Jessica is now faces multiple charges in court and will be he'd accountable. All this in attempts to get my cat safe.

We love our Tender Care family!! I’ve been going here for years but recently had an issue where my dog needed attention (as an owner it’s detrimental when our dogs go through any health issue & we act like nothing else matters). I went to urgent care & realized how much the staff and doctors get thrown at them in a days work - walk ins, severe cases, regular appointments, phone calls, grooming etc. I ended up leaving urgent care because there were other pets there that needed immediate care. The staff got me in at Glen Eagle the same day. Drove over & they saw my dog. Ended up having to wait a few days for bloodwork to get my dogs prescription - I bothered the staff by calling more than I should have but they were SO patient with me & got my puppy taken care of as timely as they could. I cannot thank them ENOUGH!! One dose in, my dogs a totally different dog!
