How to Save Money at Alpine Veterinary Practice

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have felt more than comfortable taking our puppy to Alpine Veterinary Practice and have always received stellar care!! Would absolutely recommend them!! Dr. Michelle Gross and all of her staff are amazing! Drew is always friendly and wonderful to interact with over the phone and at intake and check out. All staff as well as Dr. Michelle Gross always take time to answer all of our questions and never seem rushed. Thank you so much!

We had a semi emergency today with our dog who somehow tore a big gash in her back leg on a hike. Alpine Veterinary practice was not our primary vet as we also live down in the front range. I called them as they were close to our home in Keystone, and was told just bring her right in and they will take care of her. Andy, at the front desk, was super nice and helpful, and Dr. Gross could not have been kinder. They squeezed us in late in the day and did everything necessary to stitch her back up. We were treated so kindly and simply cannot recommend him highly enough. It appears to be a small office, but one that we will visit whenever we need help and I will be giving their name to anyone I know in Summit County that might need an amazing vet and staff. Thank you all so much for taking care of our pepper!

Wish there were negative stars… Thank heavens this wasn’t an emergency that I phoned about, but only to inquire about a procedure. I called several times over two weeks. The administrative staff – I think his name was Andrew - doesn’t have the wherewithal to follow through regarding questions or simply returning a phone call with answers. Maybe it was too difficult a question and messages to the doctor weren’t even delivered. These individuals paint a horrible impression of the doctor for permitting such circumstances to happen. I’ve never even been there, so this is a stellar way to treat new clients. If they’re too busy, maybe the website should be disabled. Better yet, change the outgoing information on the answering machine saying, “We’re not accepting new patients.” ***UPDATE Odd that even my review was not addressed in a timely manner. And no, my fur-baby didn't survive. :( IF we were to have another, we wouldn't step foot in this establishment.

While vacationing in Colorado, our dog developed an ear infection that went from bad to worse overnight. Fearing we could not wait until we returned home to see our local vet, we scrambled to find a vet within driving distance who could see our dog. Alpine Veterinary worked with us to have our dog, a new appointment, brought in the same day we called. Upon arrival, Andrew was professional and easy to work with. After gathering our information, Dr. Gross met us to talk about what we were seeing with our dog. A timely review, and Dr. Gross returned with the diagnosis. She took the time to show us how to administer the medication and took our questions. Needless to say, Dr. Gross, Andrew and the rest of the Alpine Veterinary Practice turned a stressful situation into a very manageable one.

My dog has a pending heart condition, thought she may have been having an issue or was getting sick when we were passing though. I called Apline to see if they could check her out before we left town, they were able to see her that day and were absolutely wonderful. The office is smaller than what were use to back home, but it was super nice and made things much easier for my nervous-nelly. I even called the office a few days later with some other questions and they were more than happy to help. Would highly reccomend. Thank you so much, Alpine Vet. Practice!
