How to Save Money at Animal Vision Care & Surgical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff and doctor could not have been more kind and compassionate. My little girl had her eye surgery and has fully recovered. She is back to her active, happy self.

Dr. McNabb and her staff are a God-send! After having endured a nightmare of eye destruction caused by an incompetent, and likely dishonest, eye doctor in Thousand Oaks, now Calabasas (they recently moved), we were given a referral by a friend to Dr. McNabb. Dr. McNabb was able to save our dog's other "good" eye, after she all but lost the other one to ulceration caused by calcium deposits. The ulceration that ended with her mostly losing her eye was preventable had we been with a competent doctor who could formulate an appropriate treatment plan. It was a terrible trauma and left a young, extremely active Blue Heeler very visually impaired. Thank heavens that we found Dr. McNabb when our dog's remaining "good" eye was also starting to ulcerate for the same reason, only 2 months later. Dr. McNabb quickly and perfectly applied the correct treatment plan, which resulted in the calcium deposits that were causing the ulcerations to dissipate, leaving her with a healthy, clear eye. Dr. McNabb also expertly performed a fairly minor procedure to help polish remaining calcium off our dog's eye, which also helped the medication work better and her cornea to heal properly. Dr. McNabb and her staff are massively attentive, responsive, helpful and are extremely fair on pricing. Unlike the terrible eye doctor who recently moved to Calabasas, Dr. McNabb's office does not try to apply "emergency"charges when it is not appropriate (ie - when they caused the emergency to happen). Take your animal to Dr. McNabb! Do not mess around with anyone else in the area...trust me, it is worth the short drive to Studio City. She is board-certified and extremely excellent all-around and you will have MUCH less trauma, unnecessary suffering and extra "costs$" incurred, both monetarily and emotionally. Dr. McNabb is wonderful.

I've been bringing my Feline friend to Animal Vision Care for about 5 years to treat his Kerititus. This is a condition that effects the outer eye surface and if left untreated it leads to blindness. My Cat got it from his mother as did the rest of the litter. There is no cure but it can be controlled with medication. Untreated, it also creates calcium deposits on the eye surface which can take time to resolve. Most Vets do not specialize in eye ailments which is why we go to a place like this. Animal Vision is run by Dr. Noelle McNabb who is very knowledgeable, helpful, and is pleasant to deal with. Located in Studio City with plenty of available parking. Highly recommended.

AMAZING! We (my dog Lucy, her puppy sister, me and my husband) are so thankful for Dr. McNabb's care with Lucy, we have had the best experience with her and all of her staff. Lucy is doing great and has not needed surgery after proper treatment. Another specialist we saw in the valley prior to making our way here was quick to want to schedule surgery the very next day after seeing her without any kind of records or taking Lucy's heart condition into consideration and scheduled a $6,400 surgery! Talk about insane! Who has that kind of money? We love our girl, but that was a huge pill to try to swallow! Like I said, THANK god I found Animal vision Care & Surgical center, Dr. McNabb is a true care giving doctor and has got Lucy on track to not need surgery and extend her vision in her bad eye with proper drugs without costly surgery.

Having a pet lose their vision is heavy on the heart, but Dr. McNabb and her staff are absolutely incredible! My dog suddenly lost his sight due to cataracts that progressed alarmingly fast, but the team got me in as soon as they could, and Dr. McNabb was so kind and knowledgeable. I don’t think I would have been able to get through this past week without this incredible place, and I know that I can trust them to help me care for a blind pet for this later part of his life. I cannot recommend them enough!
