How to Save Money at Sand Canyon Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give a 0 star I would. This place is horrible!! The office manager Allie is extremely unprofessional and rude!!! She acts like a big bully. I could overhear her conversations about other customers and other very inappropriate things when she was in the back. The other huge thing for me is that anytime you call the Dr. is next to impossible to get ahold of. I get a gut feeling/vibe that he really doesn't really care about my dogs. He rushed through our exam. The only positive that I could say for this place is the front desk lady was very sweet. A good friend of mine recommended this place, but I will definitely not be back!! I would never recommend it!

I’ve been bringing my pets here for many years now and Fred is my next door neighbor’s pet whom I’ve been watching while she was she away. She is pleased how you have taken care of her Fred and answered our follow up questions. See ya in 2 weeks! You got a new customer 😻🥰

I took my dog a storm to the San Canyon animal Hospital and the manager Ali actually should be fired. She hangs up in your face. She’s argumentative. They were supposed to return money because they took a deposit six months ago and never returned it falsified that she called me several times to get it back to me, which was a blatant lie. She’s extremely tacky and I wouldn’t do business with them if I were you and she also caused a dog to be put to sleep The day after they were supposed to go out and have the surgery. She said she tried to change the price that it was gonna be a different price, but even the paperwork in which they gave said that take the pain measure for a couple of weeks and then come back in and then have the surgery when the clients wanted to bring the dog in she gave them a hard time because they were Latino and they had to put their dog down so now the family not only did they lose their original money they lost their dog she should be fired immediately. You should not do any if you don’t want your dog to die don’t take it there they overcharge they falsify information And Ali is horrible. She should definitely be terminated. I can give you all the photos of the dog, I’ll give you photos of the dog after the dog died and after they took the tumor off originally which they charged $1200 for six months later, the tour was there and they wanted to do all types of additional stuff even though she said one other statement, please please please don’t do work with this company. If you need any proof, I can give it to you at all photos. Do not work with these people and like I said the manager Ali is horrid.

After negative responses from two different local Veterinarians to treat our 14 year-old cat for a couple of non-emergency issues, we resorted to Sand Canyon Animal Hospital in Canyon Country in the Von's Plaza. We were very pleased with our treatment there. They were very accommodating, friendly, professional and efficient. Our Little Boy Black has had his preparation workup and will be receiving surgery when we return from a short trip. We highly recommend Sand Canyon Animal Hospital!

I have been with sand canyon animal hospital for about 10 years and from our first visit to our most recent Dr Bassi has remained consistently knowledgeable and caring while His staff are compassionate and diligent. Dr Bassi has saved our furbabies from a plethora of things ranging from pneumonia, cancer, rattle snake bites, allergies, prostate problems, tumors and so much more. The vast amount of knowledge Dr Bassi has shown us cannot be disputed and his results speak for themselves. He also is very informative about every test and possible treatment, making me feel confident in our treatment choices even when i dont fully understand because i am not a vet. Dr Bassi and his techs obviously love animals and it shows in the work they do. Throught my life i have experienced many vets for large and small animals yet i can count on one hand the vets that are truely caring, honest and extremely knowledgeable, Dr Bassi tops my list. We will never take our pets to another vet. I cannot put into words how appreciative I am of sand canyon ah, it is truely a blessing they were brought into our life
