How to Save on Veterinary Costs at VCA Vets & Pets Animal Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Very caring and knowledgeable. Dr Vaid did a dental and tooth extraction on my dog and I was very nervous. She was so kind and caring and this extraction was not an easy one. Thank you Dr Vaid, Dr Lem, and Michael at the front desk is awesome! I definitely recommend this practice, but like everywhere in the Bay Area they are extremely busy. It’s tough but they do their best to get you in. Their prices are in line with their care.

Avoid - they seem to care about their bottom line more than your pet. They will not authorize dry food, which they prescribed themselves, for your pet if it didn't have a recent exam (last exam was in 2022, and I never had a problem getting authorization before). I guess this is how they drive more business - by holding your pet hostage. A simple thought that I actually need to feed my cat, doesn't seem to cross their minds. What they don't realize is that I'd have brought my cat for an exam at my earliest convenience had I not been effectively extorted this way. Now they have lost my business (of 16 years) forever.

Avoid this place at all cost. You get charged at least twice the price of the same exam/treatment/medication at other hospitals, but what you get is doctors who are too lazy to care about your pets. I recently brought my dog to VCA for a dental exam. During the doctor consultation, we mentioned a small acne-like cyst on my dog's neck. While I was trying to find the cyst to show Dr. Lem-White, she just stood aside and told us they could have the cyst removed during the dental surgery. After she blurbed everything out and rushed out of the room to get the price calculated, we tried to find the cyst but could not. Therefore, with us not able to feel the cyst with hands and the doctor not seeing the cyst, we rejected having it removed in the surgery. However, on the official medical record, Dr. Lem put it under her exam findings that she found a "small dermal mass" on my dog's left neck, approximately 3mm in size. When I contacted her about her identification of the mass, she first claimed that it was found during a blood draw in the exam room, but then contradicted herself by saying it was found and measured during the our consultation, which never happened. The truth is that the cyst was never found or measured by the doctor, and it is actually located in a different area on my dog's neck and is smaller in size. It's clear that the staff at VCA are more concerned with making extra money than providing proper care for my pet. I will never be returning to this hospital and would not recommend it to anyone.

Dr. Vaid saw my little Yuna after she started developing a strange bulb on her eye. She was very sweet and gentle with her (did everything IN FRONT OF US!!) and she referred us to an eye specialist so that they could further inspect her eye since she said she didn’t want to hurt her eye more by prescribing medication. Very considerate of her and she even gave us some flea medicine since my kitten got fleas as well. Staff was very kind to us too! They told us to take our time filling forms and made us feel very comfortable. Really good experience here and can’t wait to come back!

I took my puppy here for an annual physical examination. It tool the vet 2 mins for a very casual check without even noticing a scar under his belly. She then offered a ~$150 ish heartworm check, Which i later Googled usually costs $30-60. I've taken my puppy here for one year, but i decided to change to a different vet. Disappointed overall. Service not worth the price. Also too expensive.
