How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are very happy with the care our dog received at Blue Pearl Hospital. The staff were kind, and compassionate, and kept us informed. All aspects of her tests and treatments were presented to us before they were administered. Both doctors and nurses took time to answer all our questions. Their cardiologist was able to test and diagnose our dog and the staff ensured they disclosed fees on best and worst case scenarios. This was very helpful. They called us to provide updates while our dog was in their care and accommodated our request to visit. That made a big difference for our dog and for us. Thank you Blue Pearl.

The location and traveled areas was friendly, clean and presentable. It brought a warm and presentable appearance, which made us feel more comfortable, bringing our pet in for care. We felt even more comfortable and confident with the staff once we arrived as they were personable, extremely polite and were able to answer all of our questions promptly with great attitude and respect. Their professionalism extended past the greeting at the door and through the entire service even until now, making us feel comfortable through the entire process that was done. Clean and sanitary work on our pet was done and the end result was very good. They were upfront and honest and made the experience that much better.

My sweet dog was just discharged from BluePearl after two nights in the ICU. I can say that this animal hospital was by far the most professional staff I’ve ever worked with before. From the ladies at the front desk to the several doctors that worked with us, I was blown away with their patience and determination to get my dog well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! We are so happy to have Kona home.

I brought my elderly F1 Savannah Cat, Jakuta to Cardiologist, Dr. Lesser. He was compassionate, patient, and absolutely wonderful in every way. He patiently walked me through Jakuta's echocardiogram explaining, and answered every one of my questions thoughtfully. He's a really nice person. I so appreciated that I never felt rushed. All of my questions and concerns were addressed with compassion, and it's clear, he really loves his work. After Dr. Lesser, my we saw Internist, Dr. Harlow. The thing about Blue Pearl is that you pay for top notch specialty knowledge and unlike some other places, at Blue Pearl, you get every penny you pay for and more. Dr. Harlow examined Amara, my Husky and recommended a course of treatment that was so much better news than what I was expecting. Easy peasy-- On the other hand, because of what my cat Jakuta has going on, Dr. Harlow's part of our visit was pretty tough and I felt overwhelmed hearing the news. Dr. Harlow took the better part of an hour discussing Jakuta's future, options and potential plans of action with me. She helped walk me through every possible scenario, and provided the information with compassion, empathy, and permission to do what's right for everyone involved. She innately understood the deep feelings of guilt that can come with making life and death choices and helped me deal with my intense feelings of sadness that were at one point overtaking me, for which I am so grateful. She not only is an amazing vet who goes above and beyond and doesn't just rely on previous history, but is curious, thinks outside the box, and carefully examines every facet of the diamond-- and if that weren't enough, she was great with me too as I was melting down. Every single person at Blue Pearl was wonderful to deal with. They helped me load my big cat Jakuta into the car when we were leaving, and the front desk people couldn't have been nicer. I've never felt more cared for anywhere. Blue Pearl feels old school--like you're stepping back 40 years to when people were un-rushed, took their time, and really cared. This experience is the benchmark I always hope to receive at other hospitals, but rarely ever do. These guys are not only only expert technical specialists, but they truly operate from the heart and love what they do. I can't recommend them highly enough!

*Hot Off The Press!!! Read all about it. Best Emergency Service Ever. FUR BABY PARENTS... BLUEPEARL SHOULD BE YOUR BABIES EMERGENCY CONTACT. We've visited a few emergency Vets in the Bay Area over the last 15 years for past pets. This was our first time at BluePearl for an emergency foxtail in the eye. The clear and informative communication from the call in the car to the clinic, the warm welcome, the kind and empathetic "okay, we're going to take her back to get a better look", the diagnosis, to the discharge paperwork. Every single member was just amazing. Our take in *Nurse* which I'm sure is not the correct term was absolutely amazing. I totally forgot your name, apologies. (Had a cow print fanny pack.) Thank you so much for answering my 20million questions and caring for our Big Baby. Luna was pleased she had you taking good care of her. Thank you all at BluePearl Pet Hospital.
