How to Save Money at Veterinary Medical Center of Granite Bay

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

New vet hospital. Able to provide routine medical care, as well as urgent/emergency services, for your cat or dog. Appointment availability is still fairly open. Very clean facility. Staff is very welcoming and friendly.

I came in with my friend who had just started fostering a puppy with intention of adopting it in the long run if it works out. Luckily we were able to get same day appointments in here and the front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Dr. Singh is very patient and extremely knowledgeable. He takes the time and explained us what is wrong with our pupper. He also took the time to show how good hip joint works vs a bad one. He gave us all the options and gave us time to decide based on the pros and cons on each option. Definitely we got the highest care that we wanted for the puppy

This place is fantastic. They were very friendly and so helpful from the minute I called them looking for help to me walking out the door after the appointment. They also were available immediately almost to see my little dog today. They gave me great advice and a plan of action in case my dog isn’t feeling better in a few days. It didn’t cost me an arm and a leg and they didn’t force extra services on me like other local vets. I will 100% be back to them. Thank you!!

Excellent doctors and staff! I took my 15yr old Maltese in because she was having a hard time breathing. I really appreciated that I was able to get a same day appointment and how thorough the doctor was at explaining everything. My pup had to be put on heart medication and is doing much better. Then a few weeks later I took my 15yr old Maltipoo in as his mouth was bleeding. Turns out he had an abscessed tooth and a mass growing in the back of his mouth. He needed surgery and a dental cleaning but the risk was very high that he would not fare well under anesthesia due to his old age and he also had a heart murmur. Dr. Singh was very patient with me and allowed me to take some time to process the pros and cons. I decide to go through with the surgery and I am happy to report that it was a success! Dr. Singh had to extract 14 teeth and was able to remove all the mass which turned out to be cancerous. We decided not to do any further treatment for the cancer due to my pup’s age and just to watch how he does. Today my pup went in for his check-up and his mouth is healing beautifully, the teeth he has left are all shiny and clean and he is much happier. So thankful to Dr. Singh and all the staff. I highly recommend Veterinary Medical Center of Granite Bay. Great care, great prices and compassionate staff!

Can't say enough wonderful things about Veterinary Medical Center of Granite Bay! Our kitty got very sick with a blockage, Dr. Singh and staff were super accommodating and took care of her, including doing surgery immediately. They answered all my questions, were kind and explained everything in great detail. I can tell that they genuinely care. As a bonus, the place is nice, clean; and the prices are reasonable.
