How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Corporate greed won. I subscribed to a wellness plan in April after looking for more affordable dental cleaning options. However, the subscription defaulted due to a staff error. (My credit card for the subscription is valid for all other purchases I have made since April.) The corporate rep kept repeating he has “no information” on why payments didn’t go through. He said I owe $967, for the unsolicited medical tests that supposedly came with the wellness plan. My pet daughter never got her teeth cleaned but the pet budget is spent. Note: I am happy to pay what I owe on the subscription fee, but I have never received a statement informing me how much I owe when the monthly payments didn’t go through. MyAccount at Banfield.com didn’t flag any issues either.

My cat has been a member since she was 3months old, shes now 6yrs old. I love the care they give. Theyre very kind and communicate and understand my fur babies needs. One time I came in having a really bad day. Had a little meltdown and the young lady at the front desk was so kind to me. When my fur Baby Gundham passed away. They showed tremendous sympathy. I always recommend them to my friends and family. The money I save helps me alot. But mostly the care they give. Their kindness is what keeps having me come back.

We’ve been with Banfield for 10 years, but we’re officially done. What started as a $40–50/month wellness plan has jumped to nearly $90/month, with no option to be grandfathered into older pricing. Canceling is made intentionally difficult, corporate tries to talk you out of it instead of simply listening to paying customers. For the past 5 years, this location’s front desk has been consistently unprofessional, phones ring nonstop, calls go unanswered, and no one is ever at the desk when you walk in. There’s no urgency or accountability. Recently, I updated my payment info and was told I could pay the balance at my next visit. But when we showed up for an appointment we believed was scheduled, the manager Renee made a rude facial expression and offered no help. She claimed we didn’t have an appointment (though the app said otherwise) and that there were no openings, yet the app still showed availability. We returned for our actual appointment, arrived on time, waited 15+ minutes to be seen, then were told our membership was "in collections" and we’d be charged full price, something no one ever mentioned. After more delays and unclear info, we canceled the visit. I asked Renee to send over our dog’s medical records to transfer care, and she repeatedly brushed it off. It wasn’t until I asked to speak to her manager that another associate finally sent them. Only then did we receive basic customer service. Renee, the manager, has shown nothing but unprofessional behavior, nasty looks, dismissive tone, and zero leadership. If this is who Banfield trusts to run a clinic, it says a lot about their standards. We’re extremely disappointed after a decade of loyalty.
