How to Save Money at Vetco Vaccination Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had a horrible experience with Vetco in the past, but it was in Cerritos. I wanted to give it another try and hoped that a different vet would make a difference. When I checked in at the El Monte location, they made sure to check the dates on my past vaccination records. I didn’t know the Rabies and FVRCP vaccines can be good for up to three years. I’ve been paying Petsmart annually for those vaccines, so I’m thankful that Vetco saved me a lot of money. Check-in was quick and I didn’t wait in line for long. Dr. Azarvand and assistant Janet were very professional and made the visit smooth and quickly as possible. I was worried because the team at the Cerritos location were immediately put off by my cats growling. They took way too long just for the deworming, which stressed out my cats even more. Both of my cats got the full indoor package this time so when my cat Yuki growled, I was worried the vet and assistant would be too scared to continue. However, I was very pleased to see that it didn’t immediately keep them from continuing. The Vet and assistant were calm, used low-stress handling, rubbed the cats heads before giving them their shots, were swift with each of their shots, and quickly put my boys in their stroller once they were finished. I really appreciate their patience and compassion with my cats and look forward for any upcoming visits with them in the future.

Our experience at Vetco at El Monte was terrible especially with Michelle from Vetco Clinic. We had 2 Appointments for two different dogs 5:15pm and 5:20pm. We arrived at 5:10pm and checked in at that time via texting service by texting 3. There was a long wait so we waited patiently in line with the two puppies and our 2 kids. We waited 50 mins until I was next. This lady Michelle was checking me in first while my lady and two kids and the other puppy was waiting behind me. As me and the first pup were checked in, my lady was waiting next in line to be checked in while holding onto the first pup as I stepped away to pay at register. Michelle walked away and asked my lady if she had a question. My lady replied that she had an appointment and immediately was turn down and was told nobody is being seen after 6:00 pm. My lady explained she had been waiting in line. Michelle showed very little interest in servicing our set appointment, she was very argumentative, showed no empathy that my family had been waiting in line PATIENTLY. We were very confused as the last time to set an appointment online is 5:55 PM LOL. There’s no way you can provide service in 5 mins. When this was explained to Michele she began to raise her voice, did not care to hear our frustration. She instead threatened to take our service away from the first pup that we were able to check in. Understanding its Labor Day weekend and she most likely just wanted to end the day in a hurry she denied our 2nd appointment although we were finished at 6:20 pm. (I provided pictures of our appointment confirmation check-in as you can see we checked in at 5:04. Second picture shows that last appointment is 5:55 it’s quite frustrating that we waisted 1 hour just to be denied. Now we have to waist time again by rescheduling and doing the same process again on another day)

Vetco staff was super rude to me one time. I took my cat for all vaccines they suggested I get a leukemia test elsewhere so my cat wouldn't run away during it. After that they said I could go back to be vaccinated annually as long as I showed them he got the test done. Which I did I showed them. On the third year he was due they said I had to do the test there or else they wouldn't give him the vaccine. I didn't understand why and I tried explaining what had happened before. The staff was very rude and wouldn't even let me speak, and went on and said if I didn't want to do it to go elsewhere. It made no sense because they themselves suggested I do it elsewhere the first time. Ever since I have not gone back to Petco or vetco. Thanks to them I found great vets near my home at affordable prices.

Friendly Vet and her two staffs. Overall, most store associates are friendly, willing to assist except the cashier. Not too friendly, cold face.

I was disappointed that the tech that checked me in talked me into 6 months of Simperica Trio. The vet then said I shouldn't have done that because my puppy is not yet a year old.
