How to Save Money at UrgentPaws
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I recently visited Urgent Paws about a week after they opened, when my cat started experiencing recurrent vomiting. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend them to anyone needing urgent veterinary care. Convenience: The clinic is located in the Duarte Target plaza, so there’s plenty of parking. Their website made scheduling easy—I was able to see available time slots and book an appointment in 15 minutes. When I arrived, I was quickly checked in and shown to a private room. Location: The office is clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. There are multiple private rooms and the main examination room is open and visible through a glass wall, the space feels both professional and welcoming. Care: The vet techs were gentle and kind with my cat, and easy to talk to. I was invited into the main exam room, where I watched them perform diagnostic tests. The veterinarian took the time to sit with me, explain the results, and outline a clear treatment plan. Cost: Pricing felt consistent with other local urgent and emergency care clinics. My cat is now doing well, and I would feel confident returning to this location!

First, I want to say that it’s never easy when a beloved pet is suddenly in urgent need of care. In my case, my cat—who means the absolute world to me—was showing abnormal behavior in his litter box, so I immediately took him to Urgent Paws. One of the things I appreciated most about this clinic is its open and transparent environment. The space is designed with glass walls, so you can see exactly what the doctors are doing. From the waiting area to the exam rooms, everything feels clean, professional, and welcoming. The staff is also incredibly friendly and clearly dedicated to the animals they care for. Fortunately, my cat did not have a blocked bladder, but he did have crystals in his urine. The doctors took their time to answer all of my questions—even when I asked them more than once, just trying to fully understand a confusing situation. They made sure I felt informed and reassured throughout the process. I was seen almost immediately and never left waiting long. A few days later, I returned when my cat showed some concerning behavior again. Thankfully, it was just a scare and nothing serious, but once again, the team saw me right away and gave me peace of mind. Overall, I am extremely grateful for the care we received. Urgent Paws is a place I trust and will absolutely return to if my cat ever needs urgent attention in the future.

I had a really positive experience here with my cat’s visit. The staff were helpful, kind, and made us feel welcome right away. The environment is friendly and modern — I really liked the open floor plan where you can actually see your pet being cared for. One thing to note is they don’t accept CareCredit, but they did offer financing through Cherry, which I was approved for and appreciated as an option. Once we got the paperwork and treatment plan set, they moved quickly with diagnostics, ultrasound, vitals, and bloodwork. My cat was back with us within a few hours, and I felt like he was in good hands the whole time. Overall, it was a smooth and reassuring experience. I’d recommend them to other pet parents looking for a trustworthy and welcoming vet. My cat is my life. I would return and recommend others. -Malakai’s parents 🫶
