How to Save Money at SAGE Veterinary Centers - Campbell

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The team and service at Sage (Campbell) are fantastic! They are always attentive, compassionate, and communicative. They clearly communicate pet health status, expectations/treatment options, and next steps. The staff and medical teams coordinate every aspect of my pet’s care, which is a relief and a great help! Recently, they’ve started working with Trupanion to provide direct pay for insured pets. So far, it’s been seamless! They also have an online pharmacy that makes it easier to manage pet medications. I highly recommend Sage. They have taken great care of my aging pet.

I would like to highly appraise Sage for being strict on maintaining the priority list. Pets with issues that are not life-threatening certainly will be preempted by others with much severe issues. Waiting time is not a factor at all, absolutely. After 6 hours of waiting till 1 AM, I was informed, by the triage lady, that my dog was the next to be seen in about 2 - 3 hours if and only if there's no higher priority dogs coming in. I was also told that I could come back in the morning and they would put me back to the queue and reset my waiting timer. I really enjoyed their integrity and could totally understand. The front desk was also warmhearted. She reminded me to not step out of the property if I would like to get some food at 12:3 AM, after 6 hours of waiting, otherwise she would have to remove me from the waiting queue. She also suggested me to order from delivery apps meanwhile she offered free Coke to others. I couldn't feel more thankful for the amazing experiences they offered. 6 hours waiting time is nothing comparing to their integrity. I totally enjoyed their best-effort service. Now I am a strong believer that non-life threatening issues won't be taken care of before it becomes lethal.

the front desk staff is extremely rude and although i was at the veterinary hospital for close to 3 hours my cat was not seen at all. When I arrived, staff took my cat immediately, I waited for almost 3 hours with no update at all. When I asked the front desk staff if I could take my cat somewhere else, they told me I have to wait even to just pay my bill and take my cat elsewhere. Once I mentioned I wanted to take my cat else where they had a nurse give me an “update” within 5 minutes. They told me they had placed her in an oxygen kennel for almost 3 hours. And I had no bill in the end making me believe she was not seen at all. Completely unacceptable.

We had to say goodbye to our beloved cat Boots, because he had the corona virus for cats ( FIP )and it took him very quickly. He didn't wake up from anesthesia and didn't feel any pain then or after. The SAGE team gave him the best care and because I rushed him over from the other local clinic Santa Clara pet hospital they offered me comfort The DR in charge, was able to examine him and give us some clarity. We were able to be there for our BOOTS to the end. I appreciate the team's effort and kindness they even sent us a nice card for sympathy

I took my cat to Sage for a second opinion after a disappointing experience with another vet, and I’m so glad I did. My cat received exceptional care at Sage, and I want to give a special shout-out to Alex and Dr. Lin. They were incredibly caring, empathetic, and knowledgeable. My cat suffered from fever of unknown origin and refused to eat. Dr. Lin took the time to explain the previous test results and provided clear interpretation. I was extremely anxious and upset as my cat's condition remained undiagnosed, and I feared the worst-case scenarios like FIP. Dr. Lin understood my concerns and explained to me the likelihoods of potential diagnoses. Instead of overwhelming us with unnecessary investigations, she chose the most appropriate ones. I also appreciated that Dr. Lin respected our concerns on procedures like NG tube insertion and endoscopy. After hospitalisation and supportive treatment, my cat improved significantly. Thank you, Dr. Lin and the team!
