How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Not a great experience here. We carefully planned out our appointment, weeks in advance ,to have our dog groomed before our long car trip. The day before the trip they started calling and trying to change the appointment. We explained why we couldn't change it and they said okay. Later that day they called again and said we had to bring our dog in 4 hours early or they could not service her. Our dog has been serviced here before, yet when we went to check her in, the person at the counter started asking questions that had already been answered and her prior visits. Even though we supplied the same information again, person kept asking for more and more detailed answers. Until finally the line forming to check in made her stop. I brought a bottle of special medicated shampoo for our dog's bath and they charged me $7 to use the shampoo i supplied! That's in addition to the additional charge they add for using their supplies. I specifically left my phone number where I could be reached when the dog was ready, it was estimated to take 2 hours. I gave instructions that that was the only number to be called, as the other number was at work. I stayed in the area specifically to pick up our dog quickly when she was ready. When she was ready for pickup, they called the other number they had on file rather than the one that I wrote an inch tall on top of the check-in form with the verbal instructions to use it. My husband had to find a time to call me from his work shift to tell me he got a message saying the dog was ready and for me to go back to pick her up. This resulted in me wasting another hour out of my day and making my dog sit there and wait another hour. When I expressed my frustration upon picking her up, it was clear. No one gave a damn. To say it was mediocre service is being generous. We will be looking for a new groomer.

Stopped in to get my 7yr old's first fish and within minutes of perusing the selection, he had to pee. The first restroom had a closed sign on it and an Associate was closing the second restroom as we approached. Guess they were short-staffed and no one wanted to maintain the public restroom. We went to a competitor and bought an aquarium, accessories, food, and several fish. And the restroom was open.

We have repeatedly had terrible experiences at this vet office. It feels like staff clock in and clock out but don’t actually care about their patients/pets, they behave impatiently and without a lot of compassion. They rarely answer their phone and have never returned a voicemail, making it really hard to get questions answered or refill prescriptions.

I love the Vetco at Brentwood. Ms Tina is the best. The staff is so friendly and caring. I am moving to PA and I hate that I will not have them taking care of all my babies. I also love the convenience of the vital care plan, cuz it helps with the bills when I get rewards. It is just nice to have. Check them out. I fully recommend 100%.

Dr. Mangat and his team were extremely helpful and kind. I removed a partially embed foxtail from my dogs paw and scheduled an appointment at the Brentwood Vetco to make sure she was okay. The clinic was very busy but Dr. Mangat agreed to perform an emergency surgery on her paw and removed another foxtail that had burrowed all the way into her foot. I am very grateful they did not turn us away and leave my dog suffering with foxtail. I just received the dog and am not sure how long the previous owner left her like that, so glad this Vetco team could offer her some relief.
