How to Save Money at Amanda Foundation

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Can’t rate this place highly enough! My experience started with Marina, who was super helpful and knowledgeable, and introduced me and my husband to John (pictured). We also had the pleasure of meeting Evan and Elena, who had great wisdom to share and such close relationships with the dogs we met. But the shining star (other than John) was Teri — she was so eager to get to know us and make sure we were a good fit, as well as getting us up to speed with understanding how to be ready to care for him (and pointing us towards resources for just about anything we could think of)! We are so happy with John and feel like we’re in such good hands with the folks at AF!

I went here back in 2020 with my cat who broke his leg. When i returned recently they told me that my file was out dated and they wouldn't take my cat. My cat was having an emergency. When the doctor called me back she was very cold-hearted and didn't show any sympathy towards me nor my animal. She told me because I didn't have an up to date file and I hadn't been back there since 2020 we couldn't be seen. We always tell how a vet care about our animals. When it's an emergency, you find their true character by the way they treat and talk to you. I'm very saddened by the way she treated me and my cat in our almost needed time.

I had high hopes for this team in helping my rescued cat, but the experience was disorganized. The veterinarian was excellent—very kind and knowledgeable—but the technicians fell short. I'm unsure if they were paid staff or volunteers, but they lacked professionalism. I explicitly informed them that the cat was only comfortable with me, yet they proceeded without protective gear. As a result, the cat scratched and even bit the technician during the bloodwork attempt. Additionally, their demeanor was unprofessional, speaking to me in an overly casual manner as if I were a friend rather than a client. While the front desk staff was courteous, one employee's dismissive response—telling me, "You can call the office manager"—was unnecessary and unprofessional. I was speaking in Spanish specifically to avoid becoming upset, but she flipped my switch. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this office. They are not as low-cost as advertised, and I ultimately found another clinic that handled the situation professionally and provided the answers I needed at a whopping $350 rather than the $900 they quoted me.

Please take my advice and do not waste your time. The receptionist name that starts with a M is unprofessional, extremely rude and racist. She chose to use the words “people like you” when I went to just ask when I would receive a call back after sending in a detailed email regarding the matter of my dog. I sent in a detailed email on Friday morning as I was told to do, and was informed once the office manager was in she would bring it in to her attention I would receive a phone call. I contacted back on Monday and was rudely told “I can’t make her call you back or read your email” she proceeded to say I was trying to chastise her after just asking a question because we did everything she said do and just wanted answers for an urgent matter. I received a phone call Today Tuesday from the office manager and was immediately cut off and denied service once I was explaining what occurred. Do not waste your time with this unprofessional office.

So incredibly grateful for this place and the people that work here. My dog saw Dr. Ben Glicklin and he is one of the most knowledgeable veterinarians/and most patient vets that I have encountered. His advice and knowledge was so spot on and he helped my 14 year old pup heal quickly. Thank you! Also, the foundation does good noble work and rescues animals. 11/10 place in Beverly Hills next door to the BH Small Animal Hospital. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
