How to Save on Veterinary Costs at VCA Bakersfield Animal Hospital
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I can’t say enough about the entire team at the VCA Bakersfield Harris rd. location. From start to finish, the customer service was exemplary. We were dealing with an emergency situation with our 18-year-old fur baby, and they went above and beyond to help make sure we could get in when we needed it most. Everyone we encountered was kind, professional, and compassionate during such a difficult time. A special thank you to Dr. Blair (I hope I’m spelling the name correctly), who delivered the inevitable bad news with such care and understanding. As heartbreaking as the situation was, Dr. Blair gave us the facts we needed in a way that was honest, gentle, and not overwhelming. That compassion made an incredibly painful moment a little easier to process. I hope you get to see her when you have to visit the hospital...Otherwise I hope you never have to take your pet to any hospital. We are so grateful for the support, empathy, and dignity they showed both our pet and our family. Thank you Dr. Blair for helping us move forward with love and clarity during one of the harder moments we will face. Last note : Arrive early for any walk ins. We arrived at 730 and were the last to be seen.Luckily we arrived as the last walk in this day..

We had to put down our old Husky and our regular Wasco vet was out of town. We called VCA and from the first phone call until the end of life procedure, the service was filled with love and care. In addition, prices were fair and reasonable. The staff went above and beyond to care for us and our beautiful fur baby. Thank you to Bakersfield Animal Hospital for providing a much needed service to Bakersfield and to people like us that live in the outlying communities of Kern County.

Our 16+ year old cat was displaying some concerning behaviors. We suspected renal failure, but wanted to be sure. We took him in early the next morning and everyone we encountered was so attentive and pleasant. After getting his vitals, things did not look good, and doctor confirmed what we dreaded to be true. She gave us options without any pressure and once we came to the decision to say goodbye, she gave us information for an in-home service. In such a heartbreaking situation, the staff at VCA really made it bearable. Thank you.

Yesterday was our initial visit at VCA. I loved how big and spacious it was. It was not an easy decision but it had to be done. After 19 years of life, we put our cat Tiger to sleep. I was able to get a same day appointment and I am truly grateful for the evening appointment. I also appreciate the fact we were able to be in the room with Tiger as she passed. The doctor was wonderful, beyond words, the whole staff was! For the Dr and their staff, your kindness is appreciated! The only suggestion I have is perhaps putting pictures on the walls in the room. The room we were in only had a few dogs through the wall which were cute. Also maybe some music should play in the rooms because it was pure silence and the water through the pipes and the bathroom echoed in the room we were in. I hope to have found a new vet for my dog Bella! VCA is not just an emergency vet, they see pets for vaccines and wellness checks. I look forward to bringing Bella in!

Went in because my dog threw up blood!!! My Yorkie had been throwing up for a couple of days and I went in once I saw she had blood in the throw up. Dr. Adrian Santoyo was very clam and helpful in explaining the possible conditions our dog was facing. We got X-rays done and he showed us that there was nothing to worry about based off the X-rays. Medicine he prescribed stopped the vomiting and now my baby girl is back to being herself. Only suggestion I make is get pet insurance if you don't want to pay the fees associated with X-rays and medicine which totaled around $950 but worth every penny to make sure my dog was back to feeling healthy.
